Southwest Florida International Airport has one main terminal (opened September 9, 2005) with three concourses (B, C, and D) laid out in a T, with security checkpoints at the top of each concourse. It will take no longer than 10 minutes to walk from one end of the terminal to the other. High ceilings, glass walls, native vegetation, floor tiles depicting seashells, and photos of Southwest Florida help give this fresh, new terminal a decidedly Florida feel.
Airline locations:
Concourse B: AirTran, ATA, Champion, LTU, Spirit, and USA3000.
Concourse C: Chautauqua, Comair, Continental/Continental Connection, Delta, Independence Air, Northwest, and Song.
Concourse D: Air Canada, American/American Eagle, Cape Air, Frontier, JetBlue,Midwest, Ryan International, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country, United, and US Airways.
Take care of yourself
Eat: In the main terminal area, look for Starbucks, Chili’s, and Chili’s To Go. Concourse B eateries include Starbucks, Beaches Boardwalk Café, Maggie Moo’s, and Burger King. Concourse C offers Dewar’s Clubhouse, Sbarro, and Cinnabon. On Concourse D, look for Casa Barcardi, Palm City Market, and Starbucks. The Bean of Sanibel has branches in concourses B and D.
Relax and refresh: Comfortable seating areas with great views of the airfield are available throughout the new midfield terminal.
Smoking is only allowed outside the terminal.
Take care of business
There are no airline clubs at RSW.
Explore the airport
Shop: Pre-security shops include a PGA Tour Shop, Brighton Collectibles, Tropical Expression, and Coastal News. On the concourses, you’ll find Brighton Collectibles, CNBC News and a branch of Books and the Bean of Sanibel on Concourse B. Concourse C shops include The Shell Factory and The Beaches Travelmart. On Concourse D, there’s another branch of Books and the Bean of Sanibel, as well as CNBC News, Island Paradise, and A Day at the Beach.
Lookout: Banks of chairs set up along the connecting corridor offer great views of the runway.
Go into town
Fort Myers is about 10 miles from the airport. There’s an unusual number of rental car counters here, so it appears that most people rent cars for local transportation.
Taxi rates from the airport to area destinations are determined according to a zone system regulated by the Port Authority and are valid for up to three passengers. Each additional passenger is $8. Staff at the Ground Transportation booth can help match zones to riders and arrange for shared cab rides as well. A zone chart with rates can be found on the airport Web site. In general, a taxi to Fort Myers will take 20 to 30 minutes and cost between $12 about $35, depending on the zone. Taxi fares to the Naples area are about $55.
There are no on-demand shared shuttle services as Southwest Florida International Airport, but many companies offer reservation-only transportation.
If you don’t mind transferring, LeeTran bus No. 50 comes by the airport about once an hour. Hours: 6 AM10 PM. Fare: $1, plus 15 cents for a transfer. An all-day pass is $3. Prices are subject to change.
