Travel essentials
Airport layout SFO has three interconnected terminals (numbered 13) and an International Terminal, all laid out in a circle. Color-coded gate areas (AF) run counterclockwise. Here's the airline breakdown:
Parking Hourly and daily parking is accessible from all three domestic terminals and the International Terminal. Rates: $1 each 15 minutes; $28 max for the first 24 hours; $35 max for additional 24 hours. Lot D houses long-term parking, which can be found off San Bruno Ave. near U.S. Highway 101. Free shuttle service is provided from the lot to the terminals every 8 minutes. Rates: $1 each 15 minutes; $15 max for every 24 hours through the seventh day of parking, $12 daily max thereafter. Valet parking is also available in Section C of the Domestic Garage. There is a 30-day limit for all parking at SFO. See the SFO Web site's parking page for more information.
Ground transportation The trip from the airport to downtown San Francisco is about 14 miles. Here are the options: Taxis: Rides to downtown cost about $3040 and can take up to an hour, depending on traffic. Up to five people can ride for one fare. Shared vans: Many van companies provide service to San Francisco and other nearby counties. Rates to downtown: $1114. Public transportation: Until SFO finishes construction on its own on-site rail system and link to the BART, passengers can take a 25-minute shuttle to the nearest BART stop for $1.10. The express bus to downtown costs $3. For a complete list of options, go to the SFO Web site's transportation page.
