About Orient Lines
About Orient Lines Owned by Norwegian Cruise Line since 2000, Orient Lines bills itself as the “Destination Cruise Specialist,” a fitting moniker. The line is known for its creative, “one-way” cruises that feature more ports per itinerary, more time in each port, and more overnight stays than other cruise lines. Orient Lines also offers cruise tours featuring pre- and post-cruise hotel stays with virtually every itinerary. Its one ship, the Marco Polo, manages the impressive feat of traversing the globe each year.

Orient Lines inspires great loyalty amongst destination-driven travelers, whose primary interest is seeing the world in comfort, but not excess—no rock-climbing walls or five-story atriums here—and at a good value.

Life Onboard
Life Onboard Although Marco Polo is one of the industry’s oldest ships, it wears its age lightly; it’s efficient, comfortable, and manageable in size. There’s no made rush to board the tenders, nor do passengers have an interminable wait in the buffet line for lunch. Ballroom dancing and afternoon tea are extremely popular, and the crew goes out of their way to make the 822 passengers feel at home.

A distinctive Orient Lines feature is its “Discovery Lecture Series,” in which world-famous explorers, naturalists, and scientists present talks for passengers. Guest lecturers in the past have included astronaut Buzz Aldrin, naturalist Jack Hanna, and explorer Sir Edmund Hilary.

In 2006, Orient Lines added cellular service to its vessel, allowing passengers to make and receive calls anywhere the ship travels. All charges are billed to the passenger’s home cellular carrier.

Fellow Passengers
Fellow Passengers Orient Lines attracts international travelers interested in cruises with both a destination and educational focus. Passengers tend to be slightly older (average age of about 65) than on other ships, largely because Marco Polo’s itineraries are longer than most.
