About Oceania Cruises
About Oceania Cruises The brainchild of cruise industry veterans Frank Del Rio and Joe Watters, former heads of Renaissance Cruises and Crystal Cruises, respectively, Miami-based Oceania Cruises emphasizes a destination-intensive, floating-hotel experience, with top-notch food and superior service—at a mid-market price point.

The cruise line began with two 684-feet vessels named Regatta and Insignia and added a third vessel - Nautics in 2005. Oceania plans to add a quartet of ships with the debut of the Marina line in 2007.

Life Onboard
Life Onboard Décor is "traditional luxe" with the requisite polished dark mahoganies, muted fabrics, and rich-colored carpets. By virtue of the ships' sizes, it's not difficult to find yourself oriented by the second day at sea. There's a high ration of cabins with balconies, and the onboard service is enthusiastic and gracious, courtesy of a young and well-trained European staff.

The dress code—country club casual—is flexible, intended to partner perfectly with the “whatever you want, whenever you want” concept. Oceania Cruises neither encourages nor discourages children onboard; however, no children’s program is in place, with little to keep boredom at bay apart from the customary ping-pong, shuffleboard, and Monopoly in the game room.

Dining is casual as well. The main dining room has no set table seating arrangement or dining times, and three alternative restaurants carry no extra charge. A special extra: Menus were crafted by Master Chef Jacque Pepin. Other onboard highlights include premium spa services at rather reasonable prices, including free use of the Thalassotherapy pool; daily high tea; and an 11 PM dessert service in three locations.

Fellow Passengers
Fellow Passengers Passengers tend to fall into the older age ranges (50-plus), are usually well-traveled, and almost entirely hail from the U.S.
