European cruises: City or country in the British Isles
From Dover, you have the option of seeing the city or countryside. Take a train to London for shopping, museum hopping, or afternoon tea. City not your thing? Visit a historic castle in Dover or Leeds, or spend your day wandering the streets of the small town Rye. Some ships also dock in Harwich, with day trips to London. From Southampton, England, visit London or Broadlands, home of shipyards, gardens, and an abbey; or take a short ferry ride to the Isle of Wight. Most of Edinburgh, Scotland’s historic sites can be found in the old town, including the Palace of Holyroodhouse and Edinburgh Castle.

European cruises: Explore the Scandinavian cities of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark
Oslo, Norway is cosmopolitan, but with a unique seafaring history, which is best understood by taking a boat ride along the fjords, or visiting one of the many museums on the Bygdoy Peninsula, a quick ferry ride from downtown Oslo. Stockholm, Sweden is home to many museums, including the Nobel Museum, honoring past Nobel Prize recipients; the Vasa Museet maritime museum; and the Moderna Museet modern art museum. Copenhagen, Denmark is a canal city, offering a number of interesting sightseeing boat rides and kayaking trips. The city is also packed with history and culture, with sites including the Tivoli Gardens amusement park and the famous statue of the Little Mermaid.

European cruises: To Russia (and Finland and Estonia), with love
Some European cruises even take you to Russia, including the city of St. Petersburg. Some amazing historic sites include the Hermitage art museum (second in size only to the Louvre); St. Isaac's Cathedral, the domes of which make St. Petersburg instantly recognizable, and the city’s gorgeous palaces. Many ships also stop in Helsinki, Finland’s capital city, which is surrounded by the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Finland, making waterway tours a must for all visitors. In Tallinn, Estonia, the city’s old town is packed with cafés and boutiques, although the area also offers a number of historic landmarks, including a castle, two cathedrals, a cannon tower, and a 14th century town hall square.
