Fare Alert is the easy way to track the price of flights you want to take. You set your Fare Alert to track any price change, or to track a specific price for a flight. When we find that the fare has changed or a fare that meets or beats your pre-set price limit is available, a small window pops up briefly to notify you.

Fare Alert has many new features:

Expedia Fare Alert does not store or track any personally identifiable information. Expedia Fare Alert only stores your home airport, your preferred destination, the last-checked price, and the price you are looking for.

Expedia Fare alert performs updates on all your selected flights twice daily.

Expedia Fare Alert's icon in your system tray will change to an information icon to indicate it has a message for you, in case you missed the pop-up message telling you about it.

You can check to see if your home airport is available before you download Fare Alert. Simply go to the Fare Alert page and click Look up airport.

Our goal is to expand the number of airports over time, but right now we can only accommodate the current list of airports.

If your system has Windows XP or Vista installed and you have an Internet connection, you have everything you need.

The .NET framework is a standard update from Microsoft which is required to run many Microsoft programs. If the .NET framework is not already installed on your computer, the Expedia Fare Alert installer will install the .NET framework for you. If your computer is very new, and/or you've installed all the Windows XP updates from Microsoft, you probably have the .NET Framework already installed.

No. Expedia Fare Alert includes only the functionality described here, which is to search for the best possible fares for you. Nothing else is installed.

Double-click the icon in the system tray to see the latest prices for all the trips in your My Alerts list.

Just use the Windows XP Control Panel (available from your Windows Start menu) and go to Add/Remove Programs to uninstall Expedia Fare Alert. We also include an uninstall link in the Expedia Fare Alert folder on your Start menu.

You can create a new alert from the Manage Alerts window or the window that pops up on your desktop.
From the Manage Alerts window:

1. Click “Create new alert.” A new window opens.
2. Enter your departure airport.
3. Enter your destination airport.
4. Select one of the following search types:
• Anytime
• Specific month – enter your travel date range
• Exact dates – enter your travel dates
5. Select one of the following alert settings:
• Reach $XXX or lower – enter the limit you want to set for this flight
• Go up or down – select for notification if the fare changes in any direction
6. Click “Save Alert.”

From the pop-up window:

1. Click “Manage alerts.” The Manage Alerts window opens.
2. Click “Create new alert.” A new alert opens.
3. Follow the steps above in “From the Manage Alerts window.”

You can edit an alert from the Manage Alerts window or the window that pops up on your desktop.
From the Manage Alerts window:

1. Click “Edit” at the end of the row for the alert you want to change. The alert opens.
2. Make any changes to the alert.
3. Click “Save Alert.”

From the pop-up window:

1. Click “Manage alerts.” The Manage Alerts window opens.
2. Click “Edit” at the end of the row for the alert you want to change. The alert opens.
3. Make any changes to the alert.
4. Click “Save Alert.”

You can delete an alert from the Manage Alerts window or the window that pops up on your desktop.
From the Manage Alerts window:

1. Select the alert you want to delete by clicking the box next to it.
2. Click “Delete Selected.”

From the pop-up window:

1. Click “Manage alerts.” The Manage Alerts window opens.
2. Select the alert you want to delete by clicking in the box next to it.
3. Click “Delete Selected.”

You can set the $ amount for the fare you want to track when you set up a new alert, or by editing an existing alert. Once a new or existing alert is opened, select the “Reach $XXX or lower” alert setting and enter the dollar amount you want to track.

You can set an alert to show any up or down price change for the fare you want to track when you set up a new alert, or by editing an existing alert. Once a new or existing alert is opened, select the “Go up or down.”

Simply hover over the pop-up with your mouse to keep it open.

The up/down arrow indicates that the price for the fare you are tracking has recently gone up or down. The red or green dollar amount next to the arrow shows how much it has gone up or down.

You can view the matching fare by clicking the flight link in the pop-up window on your desktop or by clicking the flight link on the Manage Alerts page.

The only way Fare Alert runs automatically at start-up is if you select the box “Launch Fare Alert at Windows start-up” on the Manage Alerts page. If this box is checked, simply click to uncheck it.

If the fare that Expedia Fare Alert finds is cheaper than your price setting, Expedia Fare Alert will alert you by briefly showing a pop-up message and changing the icon to indicate it has a message for you.

The prices that airlines charge for a particular flight can change rapidly. Expedia Fare Alert is showing you a price for that route recently booked by a customer. It is possible that the availability for that flight will change between when you are alerted and when you shop for the flight, so we cannot guarantee the alert price.

Unfortunately, they are not. As you probably know, airfare and availability changes very rapidly, so sometimes fares we display change by the time you see them on our site.

It could be that your computer is not able to connect to the internet at the moment. Expedia Fare Alert uses the Internet to check for the best prices on the Expedia site. It could also be that there is no fare between the two airports that you've selected that has been purchased recently enough to qualify as a valid low fare. You can always click the link to search our site for fares – even when Expedia Fare Alert doesn't show a price, you can still find a fare by visiting the Expedia.com website.
