Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do if there are unauthorized charges on a credit card that I used for an Expedia.com reservation or purchase?
Report your suspicion of an unauthorized charge to your credit card provider and contact Expedia.com immediately using our support and feedback form. Select "other questions, comments, or feedback" as the subject line, and include details of the purchase(s) in the "questions or comments" box.
Will I be held responsible for unauthorized charges on my credit card?
Generally, as a credit card holder, your liability limit is $50 per credit card for unauthorized charges. If you used a credit card on Expedia.com, and unauthorized charges appear on that card's statement at any time within 12 months of your Expedia.com transaction, we'll cover your liability up to $50 so long as certain terms and conditions are met.
What is covered by the credit card protection program?
Since June 23, 1998, every credit card used to make reservations or purchases on the United States version of Expedia.com has been covered by our credit card protection program for a period of up to 12 months after a reservation or purchase is made. Each time you make another transaction on Expedia.com, you have 12 months of continued coverage.
Is my debit card covered?
We are unable to include cash cards, automated teller machine (ATM) cards, or debit cards in our protection program.
Do credit cards issued in countries besides the United States qualify for the protection program?
We cannot cover credit cards issued outside the United States, cash cards, ATM cards, or debit cards under the protection program.
How soon do I have to contact Expedia.com about unauthorized charges?
You must report the unauthorized charges to your credit card issuer as soon as you discover the charge and no later than 60 days after receiving your card statement. You should contact us promptly if you find you have any liability to your card issuer for these unauthorized charges. Expedia.com members have up to 12 months after the most recent date the member has made a reservation or purchase on Expedia.com to contact us about an unauthorized charge.
How soon can I expect resolution of my claim under the credit card protection program?
Resolution of most claims is relatively quick; however, our ability to help you depends on how soon you report your suspicion of unauthorized use, how quickly you can supply us with all the information we need, what company issued your credit card, and the length of the investigation process.
Are members using the Canadian, German, and United Kingdom versions of Expedia covered?
Unfortunately, reservations and purchases made through Expedia accounts outside the United States are not covered by this offer.
Where can I see the detailed legal terms and conditions of the credit card protection program?
The legal terms and conditions of the credit card protection program are always available in the Customer Support Center.
