Of the USVI, St. Thomas has the most rooms and the greatest variety of accommodations. You can stay in a luxurious south shore, east end, or west end resort (at $300 to more than $900 per night) or in one of the fine, more modestly priced hotels (often in rooms that have a kitchen and a living area) found in lovely settings throughout the island. There are also guest houses with great views (many are east and north of Charlotte Amalie, in the Frenchtown area or overlooking hills) and inexpensive lodgings (most right in town) that are perfect if you just want a clean room to return to after a day of exploring or beach-bumming.
On St. Croix, a peaceful night's sleep is almost guaranteed, whether you stay just steps from the beach or near the shopping and restaurants of Christiansted or Frederiksted -- the sidewalks are rolled up early on this island. And, while there aren't many oceanfront hotels on St. John, the island's two world-class resorts -- Caneel Bay Resort and the Westin Resort, St. John -- are on the beach. Your choice also includes a few inns in Cruz Bay (noise can be a problem); two campgrounds, both at the edges of beautiful beaches; ecoresorts; and luxurious villas, often with a pool or a hot tub and a stunning view.
