Government House
Government Hill, Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

Phone 340/774-0001

Built in 1867, this neoclassical white brick-and-wood structure houses the offices for the governor of the Virgin Islands. Inside, the staircases are of native mahogany, as are the plaques hand-lettered in gold with the names of the governors appointed and, since 1970, elected. Brochures detailing the history of the building are available, but you may have to ask for them. A deputy administrator can lead you on a guided tour; call ahead to schedule an appointment. COST: Free.
