Best time to visit the Nordic countries
Scandinavia’s peak season occurs between May and September. Summers are often mild, but hot days are not uncommon toward the end of the season. Summer also brings longer days, with up to 19 hours of daylight per day during June, resulting in the region’s famous “midnight sun.” Winters in Scandinavia also have much to offer, especially in the northern regions. Ice and snow create a winter wonderland, and the sparkling landscape is made even more impressive when the Northern Lights make an appearance.
Denmark: Sunny summer days draw crowds to Denmark’s many beaches. The warm weather also draws visitors to the streets of Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense, and Aalborg. Tivoli, an amusement park in Copenhagen, is another popular summer destination that appeals to people of all ages.
Sweden: Stockholm, the “Venice of Scandinavia,” is a friendly city known for its culture, shopping, and nightlife. Another popular destination is Gothenburg, which is recognized as a “gourmet capital” and offers a wide variety of restaurants. Malmö, the “walkable city,” is connected to Copenhagen by the Oresunds Bridge
Norway: Norway enjoys warm summers and cold winters. Oslo offers a multitude of shopping and nightlife options, while Bergen, the second-largest city, has an old-town atmosphere and serves as a first step out to the Norwegian fjords. Stavanger and Trondheim are cozy, friendly towns, and are well worth a visit.
Iceland: Iceland offers something for everyone. It's one of the few places in the world where you'll find volcanoes, stunning waterfalls, glaciers, and geysers all in one area. Reykjavik has the best nightlife north of the Arctic Circle, but the region also offers a wide range of outdoor activities, including whale-watching, skiing, and swimming.
Finland: Finland has an intriguing blend of both western and eastern cultures. Helsinki, the capital city, offers a wealth of attractions, from museums to design shops to jazz clubs. One of the area’s main claims to fame is that it’s the home of Santa Claus, whom you can visit near the town of Rovaniemi in Lapland.
