The story of the Islands begins on the seas. The Kalakaua Boat House has interactive exhibits where you can learn about Hawai'i's whaling days, the history of Honolulu Harbor, the Clipper seaplane, and surfing and windsurfing in Hawai'i. Moored next to the Boat House is the Falls of Clyde. Built in 1778, this four-masted, square-rigged ship once brought tea from China to the U.S. west coast and is now used as a museum. Also on view is the Hokule'a, a reproduction of an ancient Polynesian double-hull voyaging canoe. The Hokule'a has completed several journeys throughout the Pacific, during which the crew used only the stars and the sea as navigational guides. Self-guided audio tours are available in English, Japanese, and Korean. COST: $7.50.
