Best time to visit New York City

It's always a good time to visit the greatest city in the world—but you're more likely to find great travel bargains between January and August. In the summer, weather can be warm, but smaller crowds at the top tourist attractions make up for it. In the winter, the weather may be cold and snowy, but many people think the city is at its very best when it's all dressed up with a fresh coat of snow and lots of twinkling lights. November and December can be busy, as shoppers pack the city searching for the perfect gift.
Peak Season: September to December is convention season, then shopping season in New York. Prices are high as people compete for hotel space, especially during the first weekends in December.

Value Season: January to August, although spring rates can be a bit higher if the weather is nice. Summer is a great time to visit New York—especially the more heavily touristed areas like Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.
