Colorado: What to expect
When to go
With temperatures dropping, many resorts open in early November. Expect rates to be higher during holidays and the peak season (January to February), with great deals on lodging and lift tickets for early season (November to mid-December) and spring skiing (late March and early April).

Colorado ski destinations
  • At Vail, a blizzard of new construction is reinventing the resort’s classic village. At Beaver Creek, a new high-speed quad now whisks skiers up Larkspur Bowl in just six minutes.
  • While Aspen gets the buzz for its celebrity style, Snowmass is busy building a brand-new village. For 2006, catch the new Elk Camp Gondola to the top of Elk Camp Meadows.
  • Taking top honors as the highest lift in North America (12,840 feet), the new Imperial Express chair at Breckenridge accesses 400 acres of expert terrain at the top of Peak 8.
  • Keystone and Copper Mountain continue to expand their already lavish offerings with guided snowcat tours, expanded terrain parks, and assorted non-skiing adventures.
  • Telluride now offers guided ski tours to Mountain Quail, a hike-to, inbounds area above the Prospect Bowl lift. Safety briefings, shovels, and avalanche beacons are included.
