The most extensive shopping is on the island of Providenciales (nicknamed Provo) in the Caicos, including the duty-free shops at the airport. Don't expect the variety of goods offered on more developed Caribbean destinations. There are several main shopping areas in Provo: Market Place and Central Square, on the Leeward Highway about ½ mi to 1 mi outside of downtown Providenciales, and the shopping village Ports of Call, in Grace Bay. Delicate woven baskets, polished conch shells, paintings, wood carvings, handmade dolls, and small metalwork are the only crafts native to the area.
