Exotic Remote Location

This place is a true jungle-like experience. Remote, wild, and primitive location about a mile north of Maskall Village. The jungle landscaping is gorgeous and lush. Numerous paths meander around the property. We stayed 3 nights in a junior suite right next to the Japanese Hot Pool. This place is a real gem. So unique, wild, primitive, romantic. You most definitely have not stayed anywhere like it before.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Be sure to visit with the local people. They are very friendly and nice.

still recovering

not one to complain about vacations, usually too excited to just be anywhere away from work and home, but this was a little disappointing. we were really too far from anything besides the ruins and if you wanted to see anything else, it would have been a long drive and a lot of money. We decided to stay around the resort instead, which by itself was even disappointing.

Traveler's tip

Beware of the bugs, or prepare to spend days and weeks after your vacation itching.

Upgrade and Stay No More than 2 Days

Standard Rooms were extremely small and caltaphoeic. The Junior Suites are better, but the room smelled like mildew the whole time and the air conditioner didn’t seem to work very well. The mosquitoes were horrible and their repellant didn’t seem to help. Bring lots of 100% DEET if you go and be prepared to be travel far for anything outside the resort (e.g. cave tubing, snorkeling, the zoo, Lamanai). Most things are about 2 hours away. The food is pricey but the specials are tasty. Staff was courteous. Would recommend for no more than 2 days.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Make tour arrangements outside the resort to save money.

Great Trip!

Everything was wonderful! We stayed at Maruba for 7 nights. It was paradise! We did everything from the spa treatments to all the resort sponsered activities and had a great time. The food was great, the staff friendly and the rooms were beautiful. It is a very unique and special place!

Wonderful Experience

This place was paradise! Everyone was exceptionally nice. Their shuttle service as well as the meals (which were excellent) & other activities were a bit pricey, but everyone was nice. The rooms were cleaned every morning and they draped the room with fresh flowers everyday! I recommend people to stay there for the warm & inviting atmosphere, but to do the activities without the resort being a part of it.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Take the water taxi across to Caye Caulker or San Pedro. It is great out there. Maybe you can get with one of the locals to take you on a more reasonably priced snorkle adventure. Cave tubing at Jaguar Paw, visit the Mayan Ruin Altun Ha. But get ready to pay tourist prices there if you’re not from Belize.

A jungle getaway

Overall this hotel was excellent! The staff was particularly friendly and warm. One thing to definetly keep in mind if you visit here . . . it is in the middle of the JUNGLE! Expect lots of bugs! However, the hotel offers free complimentary bug repellent that is made from natural oils. My only complaint was that the times we scheduled activities with them were all changed last minute by the hotel which resulted in a rather busy first few days, and a relatively dry last few days. All in all, a wonderful journey!!!

Very nice place to stay in the jungle

Maruba is a great resort and probably one of the nicer places in Belize. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The main dining and bar area are a little tacky with black lights and a little too much leopard skin print, but generally the place is nice. This resort is in in the jungle and there isn’t much else in the area it will take at least an hour to get to other destinations. You will rely on the resort for food and expeditions unless you have a rental car, but they do both well, it just limits your options and will cost a little more.
