Quaint seaside hotel
Absolutely loved this little hotel! Decided to stay in Volendam during the Queens Day festivities in Amsterdam to save money. Got off the bus in Volendam to a a quaint seaside city. There are amazing pubs, several stores, and a beautiful view of the harbor from almost every angle. Hotel is located in an old fishing wharf building - beautifully well kept and restored. My friend and I had a room that slept 4 people at the corner of the building. Room had wonderful natural lighting and an amazing view over the water. We could not believe the hotel had only 2 and a half stars. It was clean, well decorated, spacious... a little piece of heaven on our trip. Not sure if all of the rooms were like ours, but we were very pleased! Definitely worth the bus ride... and you also get to see a totally different "face" of Holland.
Traveler's tip
Take the 110 Arriva bus from Amsterdam Central Station to the Volendam marketplace stop. The bus ride is about 10-15 minutes through lovely farmland, tulips, and windmills. Beautiful!

Does Not Live Up To Its Reputation
This hotel was expensive and we got very little for the money. We had a tiny little room that was difficult to move around in and had no view. Our double bed was actually two twin beds pushed together. If youre a stomach-sleeper and need a flat pillow, you need to bring your own pillow because housekeeping did not have alternatives. The bathroom had absolutely no counter space -- I mean it -- there was not even a rim around the sink. The shower was just a nozzle and a drain in the floor. There was no tub, nor anything to divide it from the rest of the bathroom floor. After taking a shower, the water flooded around the sink and toilet. No counter space around the shower, not even a place to put a travel-size shampoo or a bar of soap. Ladies, beware! The only mirror in the room was a small one over the sink and the bathroom was dimly lit. The lounge areas in the lobby were interesting because of all the artwork, but that did not make up for the very ucomfortable room. We asked to switch to a better room, and were told that they were all booked up. (This was in mid-April.)
