Excellent hotel when you have to be near the airport.

The hotel was great. The only drawback is the transportation to and from the airport. The recommended taxi service did not pick me up and I had to get a taxi at the airport at double the usual fee. Had no trouble getting back to the airport at the much lower price, however.

Great room, fabulous bathroom... but

I arrived at 7 pm having been on the road all day, so I arrived tired and hungry. I had checked before I booked that I could get meals here. When I checked in at reception I was told the dining room was full.. but I could get a meal in the bar. Great, as I really just wanted to eat and sleep. However when I got to the bar I was told "Sorry, no food." Not even a bar snack. The woman who passed that news on was abrupt and disinterested in the impact on her client - me. However as I was already booked for a second night I did get to eat that night. That meal was pleasant enough. In summary, a very comfortable room and great bathroom. Location was great - handy to Gatwick and it was value for money. Shame about the rude staff.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Catch the shuttle to Gatwick and then the Gatwick Express into London. Fast and easy.

Has character but has issues

We took the H3 bus from the south terminal of the airport, and we dropped off on the street. The entrance was not easy to find, and we ending up going in through the pub. There was no one at the desk, and there was no bell captain to take care of our luggage. Someone finally showed up and we did leave our luggage in the reception area. We went to eat in the pub until check-in. The room was on the first. That was welcomed because of the large suitcases. The room was clean, but there was mold behind the bathroom door and in the shower. The board hiding the tub needed to be repainted. The towel rack was mounted to wall above the tub and in the shower. The towels had to be removed before showing. I would recommend this hotel because of the construction in the common areas. I’m glad we didn’t drive, because parking was terrible. Cars were jammed in just about every inch of space in the courtyard.

Traveler's tip

If your staying in a hotel to be closer to Gatwick airport, stay at one of the other hotels that have more frequent bus service or take a taxi.

convenient

The rooms were newly renovated and quite chic. The only thing which bothered me was that the receptionist forgot to do the weak-up call. Fortunately I always have a back-up alarm clock!

Will stay again

Very nice and close to Gatwick, had a King size deluxe room. Not to sure why it was called a deluxe, but it was very comfortable and they even had packets of hot chocolate and shortbread cookies with the coffee/tea pot. The bathroom shower was amazing. Never had such great water pressure in a hotel before. The pub was a lot of fun and the people where very nice. Will stay here again next time I am in London.

Not bad at all; much better than expected

after reading recent reviews, I was terrified. But hotel has been taken over by another company and it was great. Fabulous value with the pound worth $2. The H3 bus from either terminal, which costs 2 pounds 50 each way, takes about 10 minutes to hotel with one intermediate stop, and about 5 minutes back. Horley’s a cute town with parks, pubs and restaurants; an easy walk from hotel. I didn’t eat at hotel, but outdoor tables looked "OK." I would definitely book again. OL Princeton, NJ

Comfy Hotel

There was some renovation underway, so it got kinda smelly. Other than that, I liked it. My friend felt the bathrooms could have been cleaner, but I thought they were fine. The one thing I didn’t like was that the "free wireless internet" turned out to be one ethernet cable coming out of the wall in front of the front desk. Other than that, it is a great place for a one or two night stay. Don’t plan on spending more time than that here.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Take the shuttle to Gatwick and go into London on the Gatwick Express! You will NOT regret it!
