Did not fully meet expectations
It might have been that we were too excited about staying in a castle, but it did not live up to our expectations. The hotel was nice and the staff was very friendly, but the location was not ideal unless you wanted to just relax at the hotel. We did try taking the bus into town one day and it was a bit of a hike to the bus stop. My friend had a bit of a hard time getting there - not ideal for anyone with problems walking distances up hill. We ended up using a taxi for another trip but that ended up being expensive. The hotel was nice but a little worn. The room was very spacious and very clean. In the end it might have been better to stay in a hotel in town, but we are glad we tried staying at the castle for this trip.

Felt like royalty!
Staying in a castle was awesome! It made us feel like royalty. The staff was amazing in accomadating us and our needs and our room was spectacular with a loft bedroom! The morning buffet breakfast was excellent and had great choices. We highly recommend Melville Castle and would definitely stay again!!!!
Traveler's tip on recreational activities
When driving in Edinburgh, as in other cities in UK, it can get very confusing. There is a public bus that stops right outside the castles gate that you can catch to take you anywhere around the city. Theres also a map guide of which bus you need to take at the bus stop to help you. We took it many times to the Royal Mile and the waterfront. Its cheap and less stress!!!
