cannot wait to go back-- very pleased with acces to beach and ease of accessingthe island

the hotel was excellent--very clean and relaxing. although the front desk closed at 6:00pm they made it very easy if you encountered a problem. would give this vacation a 5 star rating. loved the easy access to the island through the trolley system. great variety of eating choices on the island.

Traveler's tip

do not need a car on the island but transportation to the airport may require one

Excellent Relaxing Place to Stay

We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Tortuga. Upon entry to our room our jaw literally dropped. Very spacious, yet cozy. Everything we needed to stay in the room if we wanted instead of going out. But going out to eat was quite easy, with at least two good breakfast joints about two blocks away, and several within walking distance. The beds were slightly firm, but the peace and quiet made for easy sleeping. You know you had a nice time when you wish you could stay longer. About the only discouraging part of the trip, was some of the trolley service. While it was appreciative of having a free transport service, sometimes you waited nearly an hour for the next trolley, or just simply missed one trolley because with their popularity, they added a conventional bus. Something that travelers that may use this service should be aware of.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Beach @ hotel was nice, but short trip other Anna Maria beaches on were well worth it. Plenty of places to explore on the island. Good shore fishing in the channel between Anna Maria and Longboat Key.

Would go back again

It was what we expected from the website. It was comfortable, easy access to the beach, just a walk across the street to a lovely beach. You can walk in either direction farther than we could ever walk and still expect to walk back for someone who likes beach walks. The front desk people were very nice and helpful but be informed that they are not on site at night, though I did not find that to be a problem. We do not require a lot of extras when we travel and for us it was great.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Great place for beach walking, quite, not a night life spot.

Great Vacation

Anna Maria Island is the perfect balance of "off the grid" and "plenty of options", and the Tortuga is right in the center. Clean rooms, great beach, friendly staff....highly recommended!

Traveler's tip on dining

Try the Beach House restaurant just 1/2 mile south of the Inn.

Good room, great beach

Our room was mall, but really all we needed. Staff was friendly, but front desk only open from 9-6 so on your own if you evening questions. Housekeepers didn’t clean our room everyday. :( Plus side was that the beach was excellent and the location is a great spot on the island - walking distance to Bridge Street. We’d stay here again - but get a bigger room.

Traveler's tip on dining

Go to Duffy’s Tavern... island icon and great burgers.

Excellent Service and Cleanliness

Tortuga was a fantastic place to stay, the service was great and the rooms were very, very clean. The atmosphere of the room was also great with marble countertops and spacious area to lounge.

Good place for the money

The room was modern, with nice tile floors and granite countertops. The set up of the room was a bit awkward, with the kitchenette essentially in the bathroom, and windows out into the hallway rather than to the outside world. The entrance to the room was sliding glass doors, which was also weird. The hotel was across the street from a very nice beach, and the pools and pool areas were very classy. The front desk staff were very nice to interact with, and quite helpful. Overall, a nice place to stay for the rates charged.

Traveler's tip on dining

If you like Mexican, the 35 minute drive to Mi Pueblo is definitely worth it.

If you don’t mind rude staff, you’ll love it!

It was really a great place to stay - location was great and the actual room was awesome. What I did not care for was the ladies at the front desk, very rude. But other than that Iloved the place and the location.

What a wonderful place

The hotel’s amenities and well appointed rooms made our stay comfortable. Staff was very friendly and made sure we would enjoy our stay. Location of the hotel right across from the private beach was terrific. Sunsets were amazing. Tortuga Inn was great.

Life in a cave

Location by beach is great, however, the lack of a window really made the hotel room feel like a cave albeit without the darkness. The hotel rooms are small spaces carved out of the more luxurious apartments. The sliding double glass doors are covered with flimsy blinds which leak light from the emergency lighting all night so an eye cover is definately recommended. The view of the hallway through those doors doesn’t really make up for the lack of a window. On the plus side the hotel was really quiet so ear plugs weren’t that necessary except to block out the really loud air conditioning. The plates and the microwave were also really great to have to cut down on expenses.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Of course the beach is great and unlike the East side of Florida there were actually shells! Driving down longboat key turned out to be much master to Sarasota than going back to 41 and St. Armand’s circle was a fun stop. The little Italian restaurant nearby had great gnocchi.
