Quirky charm
We loved this quirky hotel. The doormen wear kilts, the ghosts of such famous guests as Albert Einstein roam the corridors, the rooms are huge and the staff friendly. The buffet breakfast is great value and we adored the little bar. Echoes of the grand old days of hotels.

Interesting!
Wonderful atmosphere, cavernous rooms only let down by well meaning but incompetent staff, eg everything was a stuff-up, from payment, to room keys, to whether breakfast was included or not that we just laughed every time a drone (sorry staff member) approached us with something or other. It was like, what is it now?? Actually it was quite entertaining to behold. Seriously though, it’s a great hotel and I’ll definitely be back lol.

Great bargain
We stayed at the Astor for 3 nights. It is one of the few hotels we could find that would allow our family to share one room. It seems almost every other hotel in Shanghai requires a family of 4 to book 2 separate hotel rooms. The room was huge. Lots of noise bx of the Expo construction, but nothing we couldn’t live with. Staff was very helpful. I’d definitely stay there again.
