Depends what you want
The value is good - free (but mediocre) breakfast, free Internet, neat location near Balboa Park. The best I can say about this hotel is that the people who work there are terrific. They went out of their way to accommodate me.As for the hotel facilities, a huge disappointment. Rooms are shabby - "antique" furniture is just plain old. Rooms are not clean. There are no amenities in this hotel whatsoever. TVs in rooms are old and tiny. I do not have a problem with this but you should know that this hotel caters to a gay clientele, which is something not made clear on Expedia. This is not a business class hotel by any means.

Good for a budget hotel
I stayed here in April 2009. Its a great old place. My room has a nice view, the bed was comfortable, and I appreciated the kitchenette. Its near Balboa Park and is a good walk (downhill!) to the Gaslamp area and on a busline to get back. That said, the hotel was clearly created as an apartment building early in the last century and has a bit of that old building smell. Id certainly go back because the price and location were fine.
