Dont think its a hotel, its a time share!!
I will never stay here in my life again. I dont recomend it either. I went for my honeymoon so I reserved a room with a king size bed. When we got there we got a small room with 2 full beds. So when I told them that this was a mistake all they had to say was that they only have rooms with 2 full beds and suites with king size beds but for a higher price. After trying to fix this mess until 2 in the morning and trying to cancel it with expedia they offered the suite with the king at the same price. But the damage had been done, they were rude and just didnt care to stand by my reservation because basically they let you reserve something they cant offer. Its too big of a place, you have to wait for the mini trolley to take you everywhere. There is no insulation in the rooms so at 7 am you wake up to every noise and sound around you. They also call you every morning at 8 am to offer you a "welcoming package" which stands for "timeshare sales pitch". The beach is horrible, if you like to swim, forget it! Thats just not happening due to the rocks. Its just not worth it. They should advertise only what they can offer. Expedia was really good at helping us out by phone. Take all the numbers when you travel, you will need them in cases like this.

Great Resort, Great Fun
Mayan Palace was one of the best resorts that we have vacationed at. My family and I were there for 12 days, and we would go back in an instant. The pool was very impressive. The low-rise resorts along the Riviera Maya are different from other tropical destinations in the sense that they are very spread out; the resorts are huge and reflect the Mexican lifestyle of walking. We stayed in Building 8 which was close to the lobby and parking(a rental car is recommended if you like to explore and eat & dine at different places) and had a curving path to the beach. The hotel also provides tram every few minutes to the pool area, but the walk path is really pleasant and takes just a few minutes. The large suite we had slept 5 people and was very spacious and comfortable, unlike other hotels were you feel on top of one another. The kitchen had a blender, toaster and microwave; there was a dining room, living rm with beautiful decor, and smartly designed bath with two seperate marble sinks. The restaurants, in particular Havana Moon situated on the beach, were first rate, the food was excellent throughout. There was also a neat little market/deli that was very reasonable. In fact, we drove into Playa Del Carmen to buy some beverages at MEGA supermarket and the prices were the same as in the states. In the evenings, we went into town, to walk, shop and dine. All in all, we had a great time -the kids loved the massive pool, and mom & dad loved the relaxation(spa). Highly recommended.
Traveler's tip on dining
There are 2 Starbucks in Playa Del Carmen on the popular walking street 5th Avenida, which is 15 kilometers south of the resort. There are no Dunkin Donuts. The restuarants along 5th Ave were all very good, we did not have any bad dinners during this trip. The resort restaurants were also exceptional.
