Quirky
The property is beautiful, but the hotel service is very quirky. I was told by the receptionist that my room was just "a few steps away" and so opted not to have anyone assist me with carrying my bags. Im quite fit, so figured it wouldnt be a big deal. After walking up a hill and a then a long flight of stairs, I finally found myself at my building. Not an easy trek. I ordered room service twice while there. the first time I waited over an hour for it. The second time they tried to deliver it to another room, so I finally got my tuna sandwich about an hour and a half later. The reception area was not able to send a fax internationally, so by the time I took a cab to the town center in Bath, and paid for the per page service, it cost me almost $100 to send my fax. The rooms are a bit old and a little frayed around the edges, but not bad. The fitness center is very good for a UK hotel and there is no fee to work out.

Helpful but unsmiling staff, run down congested entry, parking, convention hotel, poorly located
Shabby hotel on beautiful grounds 6-8 miles outside Bath...not IN bath. Helpful but unsmiling staff stood out like a sort thumb from other hotels in SW England. Shabbily appointed, congested entry. Inadequate staffing for check in and out.

Country Club Luxury
This is a great place to get away for a few days. They have an indoor and outdoor pool and spa treatments. The room was comfortable in so many ways: fluffy feather duvet, complimentary sparkling and still waters, free biscuits, heated towel rack, fancy bathtub, excellent tolietries, tasteful, high quality decor. The best thing about our "garden suite" was the window seat. You could open the window and feel the breeze or sit there and read, or watch the stars with a view of Baths beautiful countryside for miles and miles. Breathtaking. Delicious breakfast. Great landscaping. Nice old building for the main rooms. Our only complaint: it is more than a mile away from central Bath and for travellers without a car that means the expense of a taxi everytime one goes out.
Traveler's tip on dining
Demuths is a cozy vegetarian world-food restaurant in central Bath. We thought we werent that hungry so we shared the thali and a salad. We eat a lot of Indian food, but we had never had such creative, garden-fresh indian food before. The dessert a sachartorte with ice cream and honeyed peaches was incredible. Great for lunch or dinner.
