making improvements
We stayed here twice last year and felt they needed to remodel the hotel and try to bring it back to what had to have been a very nice resort property in its day. We were pleasantly surprised to see that someone has started the process. Outside structure had been stained and new doors/windows being installed. Our room was updated with new tile/carpet etc. We did notice that the same blankets were being used, and we still saw some cleaning issues around the windows etc. Hope they continue to update.
Traveler's tip on dining
Timmerman’s Supper Club still provides one of the best meals in the area, and the view is wonderful.

not too impressed
I wasn’t too impressed with Timmerman’s. For starters, we were disappointed to find the TV in our room had crappy reception. We discovered the last day we were there that the cable cord was fraying and therefore the reason for the crappy reception. The TV was also ancient and small. We had brought a portable DVD player to watch movies with, but the TV was so old it didn’t have audio or video input jacks. There was an ominous brown stain on the underside of one of the comforters. We also noticed lots of stains on the carpets in the hallways. On the positive side, the pool, whirlpool, and sauna were great, as was the continental breakfast. Overall, I don’t think the hotel was worth the rate we paid for it though.

It’s a Dubuque icon
Therefore, it’s very "retro" in feel. No hairdryer, movies, radio in room. Breakfast good. Pool nice. For the price it was fine, plus it was right next to golf course and delicious supper club and on the same route to Galena.
