Train Chimes

The one thing I take away from this stay is that each time a train left the station, I heard its chimes just before it pulled out. The hotel is situated just down the street from the main train station and my window faced the tracks as well as the overhead highway bypass. is not a very attractive part of town. If you stay a few days, though, you’ll probably get used to it. My room was very basic. It did have a wardrobe, small TV with French, Italian, one German, and two English language stations; and a coffee maker with a replenished daily serving of a biscuit and whatever tea or coffee you used the day before. The bed was not very comfortable and the air/heating was less than optimum. There was a hair dryer. A buffet brakfast on the mezzanine floor is extra and expensive. The walk to the beach takes about 15 minutes. The light rail stops on the corner outside the entrance. In summation, consider both the location and the price. Don’t overpay. I observed walk-in customers getting low rates with breakfast included.

Traveler's tip on shopping

Both the Monoprix and Lafayatte department stores on Jean Medecin have extensive supermarkets in their basements. They also have small bakeries within their stores for your morning pastries and afternoon baquette.

Good hotel

Clean big rooms. The balcony was a bit dirty, but the bedroom and bathroom were very clean. It’s in an excellent location (same avenue as Place Massena and right next to the Central Train sation...perfect for a trip to Monaco).
