excellent value for the money
These student dorm rooms are just the thing for the single traveler who doesnt need anything fancy and doesnt mind sharing a bath. Its private, by the way. Never had to wait my turn, either. Buildings are of recent origin, neat and attractive. Edge of the city location but a quick walk to reach the center. Breakfasts were all-you-can-eat and the food was quite varied and well-prepared, not "continental." Quiet at night with no traffic noise. Id come back without a second thought.

Excellent Budget Hotel
This hotel is excellent for someone travelling on a budget or someone who isnt planning on spending a lot of time at the hotel. It was in a great location - just a 5 minute bus ride to the town center or a 10-15 minute walk. The room was very clean, bed was comfortable - what more do you need!

If You Can Rough It
This hotel is a great place to stay if you are on a budget and up for an adventure. The hotel is a good mile or two from the Royal Mile, so you either need good walking shoes or be able to pay for a cab each way. We stayed during September, but it was about 50 degrees outside, rainy, and windy, and the heater did not work in our room because it was on one campus-wide system and they said it wasnt scheduled to be turned on for at least a few weeks. We froze. One nice advantage was the on-site laundry rooms, but we spent $14 to do two loads of laundry because the dryers didnt work well. The front staff was very helpful and had good traveling advice. It was also very easy to hire a taxi from the front office. The full breakfast was limited and not very good. We would stay here again only during hot summer months, but would get breakfast elsewhere.
