Really great place!
Staying in this hotel was really a great experience. And the price was really quite reasonable. Its far enough away from the major party spots so as to be quiet and relaxing. But its very close to the museums (one tram stop away) and the center of town (a handful of tram stops away) so as to be convenient. I highly recommend the college hotel.

If Only You Could Just Sleep In The Lobby And Not Have to Deal With The Staff
It is a pity that such a beautiful building is squandered on its current management. This lovely hotel falls far short of what one would expect at the prices being charged. To start, the lighting, which is elegantly dim when operable, was apparently sourced from the failed Soviet Union. A charmingly embarrased staffer told us that the system worked great for the first year and now it barely works at all. Our nightly room charge would probably have gone a long way to replace every switch in the hotel. While our high ceilinged room was comfortable, we were unable to sleep past 8 (painful after a typical late Amsterdam night) due to the staff, who seemed to regard every door and tool as an opportunity to make a loud sound. Supposedly they are being trained by "world class management", all we saw was world class bungling. We would expect to be given insiders insight into a city at this price point. Not here. The front desk staff told us that the concierge does not work on weekends, but I suspect that they have no concierge at all. Instead we were given an un-annotated list of "the best 20 restaurants" that looked like it was cribbed from Fodors. Even a 2 year old piece from CN Traveller that we downloaded in desperation gave better insights. The final indignity awaited us at check out when we asked to speak with the GM. It seems "Isabelle" was not disposed to meet with us or provide us with her business card, services any GM at a top hotel would be quick to provide.
