Kamaole Sands - Maui Condo & Home

Adequate yet nice

Overall, our two bedroom unit was nice. It did have some problems (broken closet door, TV that didn’t work). The bathrooms were a bit small. The pool was great and we used it a lot. The grounds were nice. I couldn’t get the internet service in the lobby to work for me and I work on computers for a living. The elevators were surprisingly quick. I liked the fact that the property was on the south end of Kihei, practically on the edge of town. The beach across the street was nice and convienient. The kitchen in our unit was great. The view from the lanai was lousy.

Go to Costco and buy food and eat at the condo.

Superior South Maui Condo

The Kamaole Sands grounds and facilites are extremely well kept making for a very clean and pleasant atmosphere. They seem to have a dedicated security staff roaming the entire grounds at all times -- noticed them frequently -- enhancing the feeling of safety / security. This is our second time back here. Previously, we would always stay at the resort hotels on Kaanapali Beach which are nice, but we are now sold on staying at these Kamaole Sands condos -- much more roomy, nice pool with quiet atmosphere, very nice Kamaole III beach across the street, and we love the Keawapapu Beach between here and Wailea. Two weeks after returning home, I booked flights back to Maui for X-Mas week and was lucky to be able to find an available two bedroom unit in the Kamaole Sands for our return trip. Great for families like us who like the convenience of cooking own meals instead of rushing around to restaurants, allowing us to relax before and after meals then migrating to the pool or to the beach or back to bed.

When you arrive on Maui, upon leaving the airport, stop at Costco and Walmart to stock up on the essentials before driving over to Kihei. Once in Kihei we did grocery shopping at the Safeway and Food Land stores. Our vacation stay was 12 days and I figured we saved about $1,500 over our prior trips eating in instead of doing restaurants all the time.

Beautiful Property

1st night we arrived late. Room was 90 degrees and the small A/C didn’t ever get cool. We had a 2/bed, 2/bth loft unit that faced the side of a building. We’d paid for a ocean view. Called the desk, too late to change. Next AM a ResortQuest Rep called and had another room to show us. WOW - it exceeded our expectations.Full ocean view, working A/C, King Bed in master...amazing. It was very humid in Aug.09 so we really needed floor fans than could help direct the cool air from the living room wall A/C. Bedrooms had ceiling fans, but they couldn’t draw in the cool air. We’d probably just buy a fan at Home Depot next time and leave it. Back bedroom especially warm. We have 3 kids so we needed the couch hide-a-bed and there was not enough bedding. Units have washer/dryers. Well stocked kitchen, however every unit can be different since they are privately owned. Stop at Costco/Walmart and stock up on food (have a list). Pack a soft-sided large lunch tote. Condo has huge, clean BBQ’s..very well maintained. Pool was emmaculate and always had an attendant. Gorgeous grounds ~ pictures don’t do it justice. We can’t wait to go back to Maui and we WILL stay at Kamaole Sands again. It was an awesome vacation.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Make list at home and stop at Costco/Walmart to stock up on food. Pack dry things like cereal, coffee, snacks, seasonsings. Pack plastic baggies, trash bags, pack of napkins, paper towels, etc. Buy sunscreen there. We BBQ’d most every night. Packed our lunch and put it in a soft-sided tote we had brought, then spent the day at the beach. Pack few clothes, but make room for your pillow. Bring beach towels. Bob’s Snorkel gave tremendous service. Bring water shoes, rubber flip flops & nicer sandals
