Disappointing

After all the reviews I read on Expedia, I expected this hotel to be quite fabulous. However I was disappointed. The hotel is buried back behind St. Mark’s Square and the staff was unable to tell us how to locate it. We finally asked a shopkeeper in the square who gave us directions. I felt we were penalized because we were Americans in Italy. I would not go back to this hotel again.

Excellent place to stay (I recommend 4 star rating)

The hotel’s location is excellent. The service was superb, and the breakfast provided a variety of stuff to choose from. One minor disadvantage was that the air condition did not cool the room enough to a comfortable level, given the hot temperature we were experiencing. We recommend this hotel highly and without reservation.

Can’t wait to go back!!!

When we arrived the first night there was some maintenence issues at the hotel so they put us up at another wonderful hotel near by and made it a smooth transition. Then when we arrived for our second stay at the end of our trip, they had upgraded us to their royal suite for no charge because of the problem the first night. The room was amazing-probably the nicest in all of Venice! They went out of their way to make our stay the most memorable we had during our whole Europe trip! Can’t wait to go back and stay there again!

Great Location and great little hotel

4th trip to Venice and this is by far my favorite hotel to date. Much nicer than some of the "Popular" 4 star hotels. Big room and great bathrooms and you cant beat the location!

Hotel Dona Palace-very nice, excellent location

We stayed at the Hotel Dona Palace for two nights after a Holy Land cruise. The hotel was very nice and clean. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast has a good selection of items. Best of all, the hotel is located very close to San Marco and the cost was rasonable for a Venice hotel. Would consider staying here again if we return to Venice.

Lovely hotel, but in a very busy neighborhood

We stayed one night at the Dona Palace at the end of a week in Italy, having stayed at another hotel in Venice earlier in the week. The hotel itself is lovely. We stayed in Room 26, a junior suite, which was extremely spacious compared to other European rooms we have stayed in. The Dona Palace’s breakfast was one of the better ones we had in Italy. Staying near San Marco in Venice is a little like staying near Times Square in New York City - if you like being in the middle of everything, it’s for you. If you prefer a quieter neighborhood, I suggest finding a hotel in Dorsuduro or Cannareggio (other neighborhoods in Venice which are more residential). If you choose the Dona Palace, avoid their restaurant recommendations - the staff only seems to recommend the restaurants near the hotel which have the same ownership as the hotel. Although the hotel offers you a discount there, the one meal we had at their restaurant was the worst (most expensive and least authentic) meal we had during our stay in Italy, and it was obvious that the restaurant catered to tourists. Disappointing. Also, unlike the other hotels we stayed at in Italy, the hotel offered free wireless in the lobby and free ethernet in the room but expected guests to have their own laptops to access the web.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

This hotel is literally around the corner from Piazza San Marco, easily accessible from the airport via Alilaguna (get off at San Marco) or from the train station via Vaporetto #1 or #82 (get off at San Marco).

What a Palace

The hotel is a little bit hidden but once you see Venice you understand why. The hotel has a small lobby but the workers at the front desk were VERY informative and helped us plan our days from what we did and where we ate. They even give 20 percent discounts to certain restaurants near by and to their bar. The rooms are clean.

A Respite in San Marco

If you have to stay in the San Marco district ( which is a tourist hell in summer month’s) This quiet , clean hotel is a good choice. The staff is friendly, informative , & helpfull; a ommidity in Venice. They have their own dock which is a big plus for arrivals / departures via water taxi. We had a triple which was ample for three in total comfort. The breakfast is a good fare of freshly cooked and cold goods. The staff is always attentive and cordial.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

It’s astonishing that a city built on Tourism has absolutley NO ONE to help guide tourists through the maze other than select shop owner’s and helpfull citizen’s. Get yourself some great walking shoes, a good map ,a smile and venture into the outlying niehborhoods to see the last of authentic Ventian life before it all dissapears into a Disney like attraction.

Great Hotel - Great Location

If you always wanted to go to Venice and couldn’t decide where to stay, then the Donna Palace is for you. It is located just three short blocks from San Marco Square and just a short walk to the Vaperetto. The room was clean and the sheets were great. What was important to me is that the A/C worked efficiently during this hot summer and it did! My husband and I loved this hotel and would highly recommend it without reservation. The staff was fluent in English and most courteous. We felt like they appreciated our business and were pleased that we chose their hotel. All in all, it was a splendid stay. *****Five out of five stars*****

Wonderful location

Terrific location very close to Piazza San Marco. Easy to walk to all the sights. Hotel was lovely - very comfortable breakfast room and lounge area. The best coffee and good breakfast buffet. Nice that they have a bar open until 11:30 - though the service was a bit spotty. Everyone was very friendly though, and helpful.

Small Hotel with lots of class

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Dona Palace. The romm was large and beautiful. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location was convenient. I have nothing negative to say whatsoever.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Have directions or plans to get to the Hotel before you arrive. It is not easy to find if you are traveling to Venice for the first time like we were. Once you find it, getting around is easy.

Fabulous

We wanted to stay in a smaller hotel off the busy canal. This place was a treasure. The lobby was quite small but our room was wonderful. We did get a suite and it was huge. Nice bathroom, lovely view. We were right down the hall from the breakfast-meeting room which was beautiful. The walls were 12 inches thick. You couldn’t hear anything. We splurged on the suite and didn’t regret it at all. We didn’t get a chance to see the standard room but we heard they were quite a bit smaller. Also, we had a breakfast buffet which was included in our stay. Perfect. It was great. and about a 1 minute walk from San Marco so we could always find our way home...

Traveler's tip

We travelled in Feb. so I’m sure the city is a lot more fun in the Spring or Summer. But take good walking shoes, there are no cabs or cars. You walk everywhere. And if you don’t want to stand out as obviously American as we did, I suggest you start chain smoking and wear really pointy boots.
