Charming hideaway
We took a chance on this property and booked it for four nights -- we were very glad we did. It is a quiet, well-kept handful of cottages on a side road about a mile below the charming hill town of Montepulciano. The scenary is lovely. There is no breakfast or maid service included, but our kitchen came with a gas stove, old-fashioned espresso maker, and utensils. Our 2-room apartment was airy and comfortable and the pool was refreshing after a day in the Tuscan sun. Montepulciano offers numerous good choices for meals and wine tasting, and it is a great location for day trips to Pienza, Siena, and Lago Trasimeno. The owners, very nice people who speak little English, leave the property in the late afternoon, giving you the sensation that you are "living locally" on this lovely spot.
Traveler's tip
The name of the property is not really "Farmhouse Il Fienile" but "Agriturismo Il Fienile." Agriturismo is a well-known system of rural lodging in Italy in which the owners continue to work the land. In this case it is a vineyard.

It’s all in What you Want
If you are looking for 5-star downtown hotel - best you keep looking. If instead, your goal is a Tuscan experience, a pleasant room, and contact with rural life, Farmhouse IL Fienile, ideal. It is just a few miles from both the Autostata and the mountain top community of Montepulciano. A good location to make day trips to Siena and Assisi. There was no daily maid service, but we found that to be no problem. Surprise: A towel warmer!
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Our biggest problem was learning how to use a credit card / coin pay phone and how to operate the self serve gas pumps. A nice person helped us with the first - we never learned the second and kluckily had enough gas to get onto the Autostrata where all the help you need is found along the way.
