Where to stay if you need to be in the Samsen area
It is the only real hotel in a relatively quiet, backpack area; a value. Note that it is a Muslim/hallal hotel; no alcohol or pork. Undergoing an expansion that should only improve it.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
The surrounding area reminded me of the more remote Thai resort areas, without the sand and palm trees. Simple, inexpensive and relatively quiet. For taxi, address is Samsen Road, Soi 2.

Great Service, Basic Hotel
New World City Hotel is a great place to stay - if you are just looking for a basic hotel. It’s not super glamorous, and the bathrooms are not top-of-the-line, but it is a comfy place to stay. The service at the hotel was amazing! Everyone greeted me and my mother DAILY... and they recognized us.... and were always helpful in suggesting places we should go :)

Not impressed
We stay often in Best Western because it is typically a clean room with good service. This was a nice place but needed to be worked on badly. The showers had mold and the rooms were not that updated. Rooms smelled old and musty and the a/c did not work that well so when you entered the room you would smell it badly. The staff was not nearly as nice as staff we met at other places in Thailand. Was not up to Best Western standards.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Karon beach is an awesome place but rent a car and drive around because the other beaches are nice to visit as well. Have to speand at least 3 days if not more. We spent 6 in Phuket and was worth it. Loved it!
