What to expect: Villa Igea dates from 1875 and is a pretty little typical Venetian house with a façade of traditional green shutters and flower boxes. It sits in the charming small square of Campo San Zaccaria, facing the impressive church of the same name. The lobby is bright and uncluttered with a stone diamond-patterned floor, dark woodwork, and a sunny yellow colour scheme.
Amenity highlights: Guests can order drinks on the secluded rooftop terrace with views onto the peaceful square, or escape to a small side terrace with a swinging seat. Complimentary breakfast can be taken either here or at the Igea’s partner hotel, the Savoia & Jolanda, 40 metres away.
Insider tip: The Church of San Zaccaria, a Renaissance masterpiece dating from 1444, is opposite the hotel. One of the lesser visited jewels of Venice it boasts works by Tintoretto, Vivarini, Palma il Vecchio and an atmospheric, permanently flooded crypt where eight early doges are interred. Zaccaria was the father of John the Baptist, and his body is here too, under the second altar to the right.

Lido, two kilometres away, (15 minutes by waterbus from the San Marco Zaccaria stop, less than 100 metres from the hotel) is the recreation and beach area of Venice and offers sporting and leisure opportunities. From the water bus stop the beach is a five-minute bus journey or 15-minute walk.
