Pleasantly surprised
I stayed at the Horizon while attending a professional conference in Paphos, and was nervous about staying in such a tourist-dominated area. But the Horizon turned out to be a pleasant surprise - the building is almost brand new, the lobby and room were first-class, and service levels were very high. Breakfast (7am-10am) was great, and the bar was open till 1am every night. The bar prices for drinks and snacks were a bit high, but everything in Cyprus seemed to be just a bit more expensive than you’d reasonably think it should be (especially now they’ve adopted the euro). The Horizon is conveniently located for both the Coral Bay’s main street (bars, restaurants, etc) and the Coral Bay beach a few hundred meters away. It seemed like a nice place to base a vacation.
Traveler's tip for business travelers
The only Internet connection is free wifi in the lobby. A minority of tourists bring laptops, so there were very few users (July’08) and it worked well 95% of the time. The one time it was down, the front desk staff were utterly helpless about how to fix it - unable to reset anything and unable even to call a manager. Ultimately, you’ll be treated as a tourist, but the hotel is nice enough that you won’t really mind.
