This place is basically like a Motel 6, but it is right next to the beach and it is a good price.

Lovely small hotel
I cannot recommend the Beachview Inn enough. It’s not the Plaza of course, but for a small, inexpensive place to spend the night it is the best in Santa Cruz. The rooms are clean, you can hear the ocean from your room, and the wharf an boardwalk are a five minute walk across the street. The only quibbles: the parking lot is.... creative, and would probably pose a problem to an SUVer, thoug it is also free which is nice. And the free breakfast is, well, a danish. But hey, free internet! We liked this place a lot.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
If you want to check out downtown, there is plenty of free parking to be found on Cedar Street, so don’t bother with any paid lots.
