Great inside. Awful exterior
The area is a little bit scary and the facade of the hotel looks like the worst place ever. However, once you enter things are quite different. Everything is brand new and with nice design touches. Very comfortable and really close to a subway station. You can walk around the old city. Eventhough sometimes you think somebody is going to show up and rob you. Very scary and lonely area. Breakfast is very good.

Great value
Much more than I expected given the simple outside. Friendly and helpful staff. Close to transportation, many different mom and pop food markets. In multi-ethnic area with many different restaurant types. I was there in June. It did not get dark until 9:30-10:00p so I did not feel unsafe on any of the street. Friday and Sat. night the people in the bars on the main street over flow onto the street where the subway station is located. Like most big cities, the subway after dark would not be a great choice, especially if you are alone. The hotel its self is on a quite street. The breakfast is the same every day, but there are many choices.

Good hotel, nice staff
The Floris Avenue Hotel in Brussels is pretty close to the main train station (about 15 minute walk if you dont get lost), the Brussels South (Gare du Midi), but its a bit confusing to get there because there are so many streets leading up to the train station. With a good map and some good directions, you can find it. The staff is very nice. I got to the hotel at around 9am and even though the check-in time is 3pm, they let me have my room at around noon, so I was able to get a good 2 hour nap after the 8 hour flight from Chicago. They gave me directions on how to use the tram, metro, and train. There is a tram station within a 5 minute walk, the Annessens station, so you can get around the city very easily. The room is very spacious and clean. They give you basic soap, shampoo, and shower gel. The morning breakfast is pretty simple: yogurt, bread, ham, cheese, juices, coffee, and tea. The price was good. I found that hotels in Brussels were very expensive, so this was pretty reasonable. The location of the hotel is convenient, but I didnt feel safe walking around the area late at night alone. During the daytime and early evening it was fine, but not after 10pm. If youre going to be with other people out late, then you probably wont have any problems.
