A very good option at Tamarindo
My wife, dauther an myself stayed at Cala Luna last July 2009. We stayed at a Villa, with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a large living room and private swimming pool. The rooms has both A/C and fan (we stayed at other more expensive hotels with just A/C but not fans). It is lacated 5 minuted driving from "downtown" Tamarindo. Very quite. Friendly people. A downside is that the beach at the hotel is too rocky. You must drive to find a "swimmable" beach. I would stay again at Cala Luna if visiting Tamarindo again.

You cant beat this one!
Comfort, perfect!. Location, right on the beach with the more popular swimming beaches a 15 minute walk away. The staff are what will really make you appreciate this stay. The friendliest, most helpful and efficient staff Ive come to meet; and Id say Ive travelled a fair bit. What comes around goes around. Give them the respect they deserve and...right back at you. The sushi bar it absolutely fantastic, and so are the two guys that run the show! Overall a peaceful stay, maintains a level of privacy that the larger all inclusives eat alive. Mostly European travellers, even better. Would go back again and again.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Try a bit of Spanish, its appreciated. 15 minute walk from main beach. Sushi bar great value, restaurant a little on the expensive side. Can be managed with a 5 min cab ride into town ($5USD)

A shame not to have known it before
After two weeks of rolling over Costa Rican national parks we had two days to relax before heading back home. I made a reservation in Cala Luna ,it was the best decision. The received us with a tamarind juice. The settings are gorgeous, room very clean with bathrobes included. They even treat us with a chocolate truffle at night. My kids love the pool and walks on the beach which is good for surfers but not for kids to swim, nevertheless we found great shells. Service at the front desk was excellent. They upgraded our last day to a villa at no extra cost. I highly recommend you the villas, lost of space, your own pool outside and a kitchen bigger than the one I have at home.
A great place to relax in the hotel and beach. The gorgeous rocky beach is not good for kids to swim.
