I guess my expectations were too high
I picked Chateau Avalon for my husbands birthday get-away based on previous reviews and the fact that it was part of Expedias Insider Select. If I had a say, I wouldnt keep it on the Insiders Select--to me, IS means luxury, worth the money, and not so-so... The exterior appearance was very grand, but inside, mediocre! I enjoyed the variety of room offerings, and most people that worked there were kind and oriented in customer service. The downfalls were the bathrooms, room service offerings, noise from other rooms, and the old appearance of some features...the jetted tubs were also not up to what I thought Id be getting in this price range. I complained the first night because there was SO MUCH noise from the next room, so we were kindly upgraded, which was nice. The new room was bigger and had a king bed, but the bathroom was miserable and the jetted tub was in a weird place with gross tile... Long story short, if you want luxury and care-free romance, perhaps go for another option but the breakfast in-suite was very nice and the staff was great, so romance is possible! I just think that for the money...Id prefer some place that made me feel more taken-a-back.

Fun Place
Our first night we stayed in the Lincoln room and the pictures on the internet do not do it justice. We loved it. We didnt fly our as scheduled, so we decided to stay a 2nd night. This time we had the New York Penthouse which was quite a bit more expensive and we didnt like it as well. For one thing the bed is upstairs and when you have to go to the bathroom several times during the night, it is a long journey. We loved the jacuzzi tubs and the little extra things we ordered. It is close to a really great shopping area. My only complaint is that they need a little more tables or shelves to set things on. Only the one little table for two didnt give you much space for incidentals, etc. Overall, we had a great time and will stay again when in Kansas City.

Beautiful getaway place!
Our getaway was even better that expected. Ours was the "Havana" room, it was beautiful with a fantastic hot tub situated so we could watch movies while we soaked and relaxed. The bed was very comfortable and the fluffy robes a nice touch, but best of all was ordering the breakfast to be delivered to the room as part of the deal. At checkout we were invited to tour the other theme rooms which were amazing especially the "Camelot" and "Monte Cristo" suites. A wonderful escape and very well priced through Expedia.
As I said the sheer choices for shopping are amazing, also the Kansas Speedway is right there for car racing fans.
