Don’t think about staying here

If you want to listen the ear shattering, hotel thumping disco music until 3 AM this is your place. If you want a hotel room to sleep in, choose another hotel. The manager wouldn’t do anything to help either.

Room with A View

I hesitated a little after reading some of the negative reviews (about noise mainly) but was happily surprised by the privacy and general sense of intimacy of the rooms. We were upgraded at check-in to a Jr. Suite--which was very nice. Bathroom was fantastic--other amenities were what I expected. Overall, I was very happy and our stay was a pure delight. The windows even opened in our room!

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Depending on how far in advance you book the room, check back frequently to find price adjustments (our initial reservation cost almost twice as much as our room after rebooking later--a big difference!

Wonderful experience

We had a wonderful time at the hotel. Will be booking another trip to Montreal soon, and will be staying at this hotel again!!!! Would recommend to anybody - love the temporary design - the staff was very professional and helpful. The hotel’s restaurant experience that we had was also very good - The only missing thing is that there is no WiFi in the hotel room - but it is available in the lobby!

Nice Rooms and a Great Location

The rooms were really nice and modern. Everything seemed clean and new. The Opus is in a great location right on St. Laurent Blvd. Plenty of restaurant that turn into clubs at night. Nice cafe bars, and lots of outside seating on St. Laurent and especially on Prince-Arthur.

Vapid like Paris Hilton (not the Hotel - the person)

If style is important to you more than substance then this hotel is for you. If a funky, cool and beautiful hotel is more important than a good night’s sleep then stay here. We stayed at the Opus Hotel during the Montreal Jazz festival. The location was great. We were greeted by a valet at arrival - and it started out nice. We read earlier that there were concerns about noise and we addressed it at the front desk at check-in. They put us on the 4th floor - thinking that was enough. I wonder if the staff or managers have slept in this hotel ever? The noise all night was horrific. A night club below THUMPED until 3am. The bed and room vibrated and thumped late into the morning. The talking led to screaming in the hallways. It was absolutlely unbearable. The ear plugs they place next to the beds are an indicator of what to expect - and they don’t work, the sound and vibration are too loud. I have never had a night of (lack of sleep) like that before - none the less PAID for it! When I addressed the front desk in the morning - they simply stared at me without even a simple apology. I will never stay at this hotel again. And, if you like to sleep when you go to a hotel - you will want to skip this 5 star experience. YUK!

Ex-hooker hotel with tight facelift

Great location if you’re young, out on the town, and a super-deep sleeper. Big rooms, good beds, nice bathrooms + amenities, though the shower door flooded the bathroom despite towels. Location trade-off is that St Laurent is VERY loud and weird late into the night (til 4). They give you earplugs, though... Bar/terrasse is ridiculously overpriced even for a hotel, and a bit tacky, a shame given its prime location and indoor/outdoor options. Hotel staff were mostly quite pleasant, though the doormen acted like bouncers.

Great Location

I was very happy with my hotel stay except for the parties that went on both Friday and Saturday night that basically shut down the resturants and bars in the hotel!

Nice Boutique Hotel

It’s a little far from the action, but hotel is clean and modern. I like the bold use of colors. Great Amenities. Definitely a good place to stay.

Maybe we were jinxed.....

I stayed at the Opus Hotel over Labor Day weekend 2008 with a couple of friends. We chose this hotel mainly because of its location on St. Laurent Boulevard, where a lot of the nightlife is located. When we got to the hotel to check in at 3pm, we were told we would get a room in 10-15 minutes. That turned out to be well over an hour. We then called the concierge to get a recommendation for dinner. She suggested a French restaurant nearby and said she would make a reservation for us. However, when we got there, no reservation had been made. Plus, while we were getting ready to go out, there was a power surge in our room which killed half of the electrical sockets in the room. We were told that someone would fix it on Sunday while we were gone, but that did not happen. The worst is that no one in the hotel seemed apologetic for the troubles we went through as it was happening. When I did bring this all up during check out, I was credited for the valet parking charges. However, I feel as if it was too little, too late. I was very disappointed with the service here, and I will probably never consider staying in this hotel again.

Montreal Visit

I was amazed with the ambience of the hotel. The service was good and to the point. I was on my way pretty quickly and the only problem I would have to say is that the staff at night (usually men) were a little off track. So if you ever need anything done, I would wait til the morning. I would only recommend this place if you plan to stay out late at night. Other than that, the place is worth it’s price to the max.

A reallly unique boutique hotel.

Unlike "chain" hotels that want to look like local, special ones, Opus is a hip, arty, unique place (there’s also one in Vancouver, but they were not born from hotel giants). Beautiful lobby and bar. Excellent choice of toiletries (L’Occitane).

Dance party to the break of dawn.

Make sure you ask for a really REALLY quiet room. The hotel’s courtyard is host to a nightly bar scene with throbbing dance music. My room overlooked this nightly party--making it very difficult to sleep. I asked for a quiet room--I would hate to have seen the loud room. This goes on until 3am. Otherwise the hotel was nice. Staff was friendly and helpful. Good location.

Not impressed

I did not care for this hotel’s appearence. It was more for a youthful visitor. After staying in the Pan pacific in Vancouver, this place in not comparible for my taste.

Nice Hotel but Small Rooms

We stayed in Opus two nights. Though the first impression of the hotel was good and the staff was friendly, the rooms are smaller than we expected. Make sure your room windows are not facing Ecco Lounge bar downstairs, it is a popular place and it is open till 3 a.m. Our room was facing the bar and we could not sleep till it was closed.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Intercontinental and Hyatt have better location, closer to Old Montreal and are located more vibrant community

Loved the hotel

The wife and I enjoyed the hotel so much we cut our Quebec city trip short by a day just to go back and rest up at Opus before the drive back to New York City. Close to the metro. Downtown bars and restaurants were right there. Reasonable parking rates when compared to other hotels of similar quality. Staff was very friendly and helpful The only downside and it’s only if you are extremely noise conscious...is eventhough the rooms were well sound proofed, you can still hear some background noice from the happening lounge on the 1st floor. Not a big deal to us since we’re from NYC. It’s faint background noise, not something that would drive you nuts. You could ask for a room away from yhr lounge or you could join the party downstairs. Loved the restaurant in the hotel too.

Traveler's tip on dining

If you love Chinese hot pot(fondue) and the wife and I are big fans, there is a Little Fat Lamb restaurant right in Montreal Chinatown. It’s the real thing, not an imitation and very reasonable too - all-u-can-eat.

Great City and Cool Hotel.

Great location! In the mix of shopping and eateries. Bar downstairs can get a little loud. We stayed above the courtyard on the 3rd floor and could hear music but not enough to keep us awake. The front desk and conceriege were very helpful, kind and efficient. Same goes for the front door guys.

Great locations-close to nightlife, boutiques, casino and restaurants!

Although they gave us a non working key and couldnt resolve until the next day- it was a great hotel. Young and trendy, perfect location. It was close to all the clubs and whole strip of boutiques/restaurants to walk though during the day. Would definately stay there again. On top of that, the staff was incredibly nice and helpful. Montreal is beautiful!

Hip but too noisy

The hotel is of the trendy variety, and the staff is friendly. Unfortunately the bass from the disco downstairs thumped loudly until after 3am every morning, making sleep very difficult. Also the TV controls are indecipherable.

Nicely impressed

Excellent hotel in an excellent location just a few blocks from a whole array of an exhilarating culinary experience. Hotel staff corteus, helpful and knowleadgeable. The views incredible, the service outstanding. Do not miss an overpriced drink at Succo Bar, every penny spent was paid back by the ambience decor and outstanding service

Traveler's tip on nightlife

You wont go wrong in a night out in Montreal. From Jazz to Punk, you’ll have it there, just a subway stop away. Safety is not an issue, no matter how late you are back.Long live Montreal!!
