Good for what you pay

Keeping in mind that this hotel is a 5 minute walk from Waikiki beach, it’s a GOOD value. Especially with a little balcony, two twin beds and a refrigerator, microwave and small kitchen. The furniture is decades old and so is the plumbing, but at least it’s a clean place to stay. You pay for parking if you want it, and the parking stalls are smaaall.

Most of the staff were very kind and seemed almost thrilled to have me which was nice. It is cheaper than a lot of the hotels so I didn`t expect any frills. The only complaint I had was one day I forgot to tip and found they hadn`t left any towels for me. As they had never forgotten before, I felt this was a slight for not tipping. Other than that I was satisfied--again for the price. The price is right for what you get. If you want to get a pool and a cleaner more modern room you will pay more but will get better service etc.

Get an upper room

This hotel has a good location for the price and having a kitchen in the room was wonderful. We stayed in a room on a lower floor. The walls needed paint, the furniture was worn and dirty, the floor tile in the shower looked like it had been painted and peeled. The kitchen was minimally equipped. For example, there were no sharp knives for cutting, no lids for the pans, no sponge or dish soap, etc. We spent $100 buying essentials like paring and chopping knives, a cutting board, sponge, etc. Also, the hotel is on a busy street, so there were sirens in the evening and other traffic noise. However, I was able to view a top floor room that had been recently redone. The layout and furniture were identical, but everything was freshly painted, the view was better, and the kitchen much better equipped and included a microwave. For the price, location, and kitchen, we would stay there again, but would choose one of the slightly more expensive redone rooms - definitely worth it! I might also pack a suitcase with kitchen tools and condiments and pay the $30 RT airline fee to check the bag. It would be cheaper in the long run.

Inexpensive Average Hotel

The hotel was clean and provided what I wanted; clean bed, bathroom and easy walking to Waikiki Beach. The only problem is limited parking. If you have a car, make sure it is a compact or economy.

Was a good and safe place to lay my head down and to take a shower. No ammenity’s.

It was alright

The hotel itself was not clean at all, and super run down. Our room was satisfactory, the maid cleaned and did an alright job twice in the week we were there. If I were to go again, i’d stay closer or on the beach. The staff at the hotel were super friendly!

Hotel was clean and cheap, but the room was noisy!

Mainly this hotel was fine for the price. However, I was in a room located against the main street (the street with the front door of the hotel on it) and it was very noisy due to lots of traffic on that street in the morning, mainly. The AC unit didn’t work too well, because it was rather small for the room, but there was a kitchenette which would have been useful if we stayed more than 1 night. Overall, it was a deal compared to the larger hotels in the area, but it could use a little help/insulation to damper the sound on that side of the hotel.

Bare Bones Budget

If you are looking for a place to sleep, without many amenities, this might be your place. There is a lot of noise from the street and the air conditioning isn’t the best. The refrigerator, stove and microwave aren’t new, but they are in the room.

It was very hard to sleep, very loud. The shower had very low water pressure. No shuttle to or from airport. Few hotle amenities. The location and price were good. The room was cleaned daily. At first I wanted a new room but I got used to it by the end of the week. I dont think I’d stay again

A nice place for a reasonable price

The location was convenient, and it was across the street from a golf course. My room looked across the golf course and palm trees to the mountains beyond. Very appealing. The room was big.

I rode bus #19 directly from the airport to a couple of blocks from the hotel for $2! The next morning I rode bus #20 directly to the Arizona Memorial.

Nice Place for Family Stay

The kitchen is very helpful for cooking simple meals, and the rooms are clean. The staff are friendly, and the location is convenient. The only problem was the noise, which took us a couple of days to adjust to. Because the hotel is on the corner of a major road -- a la wai blvd -- and a vertical street.

Stay somewhere else!

The only thing about this hotel that we liked was that it was a short walk to the beach, shops and the Pubs. We had read some of the other reviews of this hotel and we should of heeded them. The hotel was dirty and there was bags of garbage sitting in the hall. The carpet was filthy, we didn’t walk around barefoot. The drain in the shower was pluged and filled up with 6 inches of water. This hotel was more like a flop house or low income apartment. This was not the cheapest hotel of our search but one should consider spending a little more, you get what you pay for!

Very clean hotel

The hotel overall looks like a small appartment building that needs a power wash. But its not the outside that impressed me. The staff is friendly, and knowledgable with directions and advice on good affordable food. The room was very clean. Fresh paint in the hallway’s and room. So if your looking for a clean place to sleep this is a great hotel to stay at. I don’t know about you i don’t go on vacation to stay in my hotel all day.

I would live there

Our stay at the Holiday Surf was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and well kept. The cleaning staff even did our dishes! The beds were comfortable and the rooms were large. We had two rooms and both were equally great. The air conditioning was there if you needed it but we just left the windows open and enjoyed the island breeze. From our room you could watch the sun rise and the night lights refect on the canal. Before leaving on the trip I had read many of the past reviews.Some complaied about a long walk to the beach but it was only about 10 minutes. The hotel is in a great location a block away from the International Market and two blocks from the Food Pantry for groceries! If you want to spend you time and money on seeing Oahu rather then your hotel then this is the place to stay.

The Cheesecake Factory is great. We recommend the Kahlua Pork sandwich. Bearded Papas are must.

If youre going to Hawaii what in the world are you doing in the hotel anyways?!?!?! In my opinion it should be for a place to sleep and nothing more, sorry that was for all the bad reviewers, the staff was extremely friendly. My girlfriend and I showed up to the hotel a couple hours before we were supposed to check in. Completely exhausted from the trip we were just going to crash in the lobby until our room was ready, but instead of making us wait they upgraded us to the two room suite at no additional cost for the entire 6 night stay. They only complaint that I had was the a/c left much to be desired. But the room itself was spacious and had its own fridge, oven, rice cooker, toaster, dishes, and a wonderful view. And again the staff could not have been any friendlier, and with the nice view, wonderful location and friendly staff what more could one ask for, not to mention fair price. If I ever go to Hawaii again I will defiantly make that my first choice.

Awful Hotel

Beds were very uncomfortable. When room doors close, they slam loudly. No pool. No amenities. Could not even figure out how the shower worked at first. Parking very limited.

My stay at the hotel.

When i came to the place it was very clean. The hotel was very close to Waikai beach (two blocks). I was surprised it doesn’t advertise that it is walking distance to the center of waikai beach. There were restaurants within walking distance. We could of cooked our food in the kitchenette. But I wanted to give my wife a break. I just wish we were in a king or queen bed. I am used to sleeping with my wife, not separated in single beds. All of the tour groups met near us and we didn’t need a car.

Just buy you swimsuit on waikai and swim or snokel in the local warm water. Just a couple block up the street.

Holiday Surf Hotel - A lower class hotel which is okey for the price

I stayed at the Holiday Surf hotel with a friend for one week. The cleanliness was good and and the location pretty central. The hotel is very old though and run down. The kitchenette was very useful and this way we could safe some money. Other than that I would recommend this hotel for people that mainly stay outside. It was okey for the basic needs. Don’t expect too much. Plus the service is not the most capable. And also .. don’t forget to get your deposit back when checking out. We left our passports as a deposit and they were looked in the safe. When we wanted to leave the desk guy did not have the key!!That was pretty frustrating but in the end everything worked out okey! However I can highly recommend to go to Oahu.Next time I will probably go to the North Shore. It’s a little bit more original and typical Hawaiian there. Waikiki beach is fun and really nice but pretty touristy and crowded. You’ll see.. Have fun everybody!

Go to Duke’s!!! It’s a very nice bar with good drinks and a nice and reasonable breakfast and lunch buffet!

All in all, OK

It is a nice clean hotel, but the outsides look too old. My expectations are never high at all - I have stayed countless times at hostels, for instance -, so I can not say I was dissatisfied. But I don’t know about recommending to others...

This hotel is ok if you are only there to sleep at night. It is a bare-bones economy hotel.
