Dirty
Staying at the Kyjev is a matter of managing expectations. Just expect that the hallways smell dirty -- the carpet probably hasn’t been replaced since the hotel was built. My wife wouldn’t walk in the room barefoot because the carpet was so grimy. You could open the window (on the 14th floor!), but it pulled in the smell of the hallway instad of fresh air. There was plenty of hot water, but the sink wouldn’t drain and there wasn’t a shower curtain around the bathtub. The tub itself was clean, but stained from years of use. The sheets were clean, but the single beds were bolted down and could not be moved together. There was no problem with the TV -- there wasn’t one. This is NOT a 3 star hotel.

Been there done that!
We’ve stayed here before. Knew of the rundown conditions in the rooms and public area. Price is great for Bratislava and the Hotel Staff is Excellent--as is the breakfast. Clearly the people make up for the shabby conditions.

What you save in lodging at Hotel Kyjev can be spent at Cokoladovna---the most outstandingly delicious chocolate beverages and candy! Not to be missed on a stroll through the beautiful old town area.

Cheap and close to downtown.
It was cheap and very close to the downtown. The rooms were very basic, and had cigarett burns on the carpet and walls, and it was very old. If a phone rang anywhere on the floor you would hear it in all the other rooms. But still good enough for a few overnights.
