Recommendable Vienna hotel - at the favorable Expedia rate.

It’s modern and the neighborhood is safe, although getting to public transport can involve a good walk. On arrival we found several defective electric appliances - lamps, fridge, etc. that should have been checked out by the chambermaid beforehand. Reception responded adequately. The choice of nearby restaurants is very limited. The major reason for booking this hotel was the preferential rate secured by Expedia - which we appreciated because Vienna is an expensive town.

Mini supermarkets are numerous and two are close to this hotel. So if you wish to economize and relax in your room of an evening, that’s one way to do it. The best single experience during our visit was attendance at High Mass at Stephensdom, the cathedral. In addition to the religious ceremony, this usually includes performances by a choir, small orchestra, soloists and the mighty organ. Really impressive ! Sundays 10:30AM, but arrive 20 minutes before.

Wonderful 3-night stay

Good location, with friendly and helpful staff. The rooms were quiet and clean, with a spacious and modern bathroom.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

The breakfast buffet is excellent, but found it to be a little expensive. Fortunately, there is a great little coffee shop just around the corner from the hotel.

One of the Best Hotel in this Price Range

I can never remember being more satisfied with a hotel room that was not a five star hotel. The room was spotless and both it and the bathroom had a great, and classy, modern design. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful and the walk down the hill to the sights of Vienna was easy and interesting. I hear the breakfast was great too, but given its 19 euro cost we did not try it

Traveler's tip on dining

There is a great Schnitzel restaurant a few blocks down the street towards downtown.

good location, helpful desk staff

Our windows opened on to the main street, so it could be a little noisy during rush hours, but overall a good experience.

3 Days in Vienna

I am from USA and live in Europe. I understand small single rooms. This one is small. It’s clean but do not expect any frills. It is perfect for business, would not want to be there with a signigicant other. Breakfast is overpriced in my estimate. Front desk staff is helpful. It is a bit of a walk to get into old Vienna (approx. 15-20 min).

Traveler's tip on dining

If you are looking for a good burger and want a good brew pub feel, there is only one and it is known around the world. 1516. Check it out, in a country known for beer, these guys make some truly amazing styles.

Good hotel near city center

My husband and I stayed here in August of 2008. It was a very nice hotel and about 10-15 min walk to the old city center. It suited all our needs - spacious room, comfy bed, nice bathroom. The only downfalls were the old towels and the floor was a little dirty. They could change there curtains and shower curtain...but overall it was a great hotel. I would stay there again. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There is a free internet computer in the lobby - that was nice.

Maintenance problems, limited storage space in some rooms

The afternoon spent moving to another room because TV did not work. The second room air conditioning did not work, and extredmly small storage area. The third room was adequate but we did not get situated until late afternoon of second day of our three day visit. These rooms for the most part are very small and too warm for our comfort.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

I could not recommend this hotel we spentg too much of our time moving from room to room to find one that was adedquate. My wife has a little problem walking and the Underground is about four blocks away.

Nice staff, off the beaten path.

A little outside the tourist areas, clean, comfy, and friendly. We bought 72-hour bus-rail passes at the front desk, which were very handy. Public transport is very good in Vienna. Nearby Caffe Latte is good, as are other "biesl" type garden cafes in the neighborhood. The hotel breakfast buffet is bountiful and very good, but expensive.

Something new in an old city

This hotel has just been renovated and they did a good job with it. There is good internet and good breakfast and a sunbed but they do cost, they’re not inclusive. When it says gym it is 4 or 5 cardio machines-no weights. It’s a good, clean, functional, comfortable place to stay.

Traveler's tip

There is a underground tram station around 4 blocks away. If you familiarize yourself with the U-system you are never over 25 minutes away from anywhere in the city. It’s very reliable.

Great hotel!

I enjoyed this hotel. The room was not as small as some hotels I have stayed at in Europe, it was actully roomy. It was very clean and modern and had a wonderful breakfast buffett. It was not right in the middle of all of the sights, but it was close enough that I simply walked to what I wanted to see or I walked to a Metro station. I will stay here again in the future.

Very Comfortable Hotel We’d Defitnitely Go Back To!

Located within a 20 minute walk to the heart of Vienna, or a 2 min. walk to the bus. Great restuarants located very near the hotel. The hotel staff offered countless ways to help with directions, suggestions & tickets for transportations as well as shows. Take the tram or bus 38 to Grinzing, cute village w/great restuarants...good 1/2 day trip & Schroenbrunn Palace is a must, the view from the hill alone is worth the trip. Call ahead for reserved tickets, will save you a ton of time.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

We did not get the 3 day pass, but walked most of the time & used 24 hour passes when we knew we would use it the most. Saved us 8 Euros. We also shared lots of meals because the helpings were so generous.

great buffet breakfast

The high point: the wonderful buffet breakfast. Location: 1-1/2 blocks from bus stop, then transfer to streetcar or subway for easy access to local attractions. Quirk: no doors on the bathrooms. Negative: very thin towels (need replacement); beds low (and mattress made my back ache)

Excellent hotel

Great in every way...breakfast was terrific, great coffee.. staff friendly and helpful...extremely clean and comfortable... The only problem I had was that it was a bit far from all the main areas where all the museums, concerts, etc are located. The subway is not very far and the subway system is a very good one to follow..but still iffy on location.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

museums are terrific...music is wonderful...opera, concerts galore, palace is fabulous..people are friendly...great city and hotel

Very impressed.

We really enjoyed our stay in the Falkensteiner Hotel, the front desk was always very helpful and the breakfast was wonderful, the best that we have seen in a buffet breaksfast. Plenty of choices and they even have crepes! The location was very good, 2 blocks away from the bus, which was very convenient. We will definitely stay in this hotel again.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

To use public transportation, buy one of the unlimited travel passes called Vienna Card; it is cheaper and very convenient. You even get discount in museums.

Good value

Modern facilities, very generous breakfast, attentive staff, good location (an enjoyable walking distance to Museum Quarter). The rooms, ours at least, were quite small. There was a mouldy smell in the toilet all the time probably due to poor plumbing... Overall, good value for your money and a pleasant experience.

very nice clean and quiet

Quiet hotel in a semi-residential semi-trendy area. Walk to the metro ~10 minutes. I would go again. For more touristic visits a hotel closer to Stephanplatz wold be better

Very Impressed!

It could have been in a better location, but this hotel is GREAT! Very friendly personnel that all speak English. They were extremely helpful and went out of their way to help us find restaurants and locate luggage that our airline lost temporarily. They even opened the bar for us one night when we returned very late! I would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend! Spacious rooms (for Europe) and very clean. Always chocolate on our pillow at night!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Take the CAT (train) line from the airport to Vienna’s Center City and the local transport to your hotel’s location to save money. Only 9 Euro for a 16 min. ride into the city! We traveled more above ground in Vienna as there are cable cars, buses and trams plus the underground! Getting around was very easy!

Great Hotel

The staff was very friendly, food was great and a chocolate on our pillow every morning! It was in a really neat artists neighborhood where you can find great restaurants where the locals eat. The walk to the museum quarter was easy but if you weren’t up to eat there is a nus half a block away!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

The Leopold Museum and the Belvedere both had amazing art collections including many works by Klimt and Schiele...don’t miss either!!!

Great Hotel

The hotel was very nice with a wonderful breakfast buffet. We could not be given our room when we arrived due to a short term computer problem but we were offered a complementary drink while we waited. The location is a little out of the way but the metro is not too far away and there were places in the neighborhood to eat.Rooms were immaculate and attractive. Would stay again.

Quality, Comfort and Service, But A Bit Far From the Center

The Falkensteiner is a clean, comfortable, modern 3.5 star property. It’s strong points include an extremely fresh, extensive breakfast including apple crepes, pate, museli, fresh fruit, eggs prepared to order and the like. Additionally, front-desk staff are helpful and knowledgeable. The rooms are extremely clean and well-outfitted. However, the hotel is not particularly close the the Center of the city. If your objective is simply to hit the museums, this hotel is satisfactorily close by.
