Off the beaten path
While the hotel itself was very nice, clean, and staff was pleasant, it is definitely off the beaten path. Comfort of the room, well lets just say the beds are hard! (if you like a hard bed, then this room is for you). The staff was more than eager to assist you with directions, dinner reservations and tours. The subway is a bit of a walk, about a mile maybe a little more. On the way back from the city there is a great place to eat just after you cross the bridge from the train station(I just wish I could remember the name), they have indoor and outdoor dining and the food and staff are wonderful and English speaking. If you arrive in Rome via the train, be sure to bargain with the taxi drivers prior to getting in, our 3-5 mile trip cost us 40 euro. Word to the wise! You will be put off by the surroundings at first...there is graffiti everywhere, but at no time did our group of four ever feel uncomfortable nor were we ever approached by any unsavory characters. Definitely take the subway into Rome, they have stops at every major spot.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
By the time we got to St Peters Square and the Vatican, we were too tired to see it all. Make arrangements to see everything while you are there. See the Vatican museums, gardens, St Peters Cathedral and the Sistine Chapel. Make the trek to the top of St Peters Cathedral, the view will take your breath away!
