What to expect: The only hotel at the base of Buttermilk—where the Aspen Skiing Company’s ski school is located—Inn at Aspen Hotel by ResortQuest offers ski-in/ski-out access from its doors to the slopes. In fact, guests can ski directly to their rooms if they’re on the ground floor. The hotel’s location and casual atmosphere—the lobby's sofas, leather rocking chairs, and board games—make it a family favorite.
Amenity highlights: In the casual lobby, guests lounge in sofas and armchairs; play board games; check e-mail on PCs with wireless Internet access; or drink coffee, tea, or cider—also complimentary. Complimentary breakfast is served daily during the summer and winter at the Elkhorn Bar and Grille, which doubles as a popular spot for apres-ski in the winter. The fitness center, outdoor pool, and spa tub offer more diversions. Other perks: complimentary airport transportation and parking.
Insider tip: Dogsled rides and world-class dining in a rustic setting are available at Krabloonik, a kennel and restaurant nestled on the slopes of Snowmass, nine miles from the hotel. More than 200 snow dogs live at the kennel adjacent to the restaurant, where lunch guests enjoy views of Mount Daly and Capitol Peak, and watch the sled teams come and go while dinner guests relax around a sunken fire pit.
