Pleasant Istanbul Break
The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. The room was quiet, spacious and more comfortable than we expected in this price range. Our room was not at the front but we were not disturbed by the call to prayer from the nearby mosques. The location is ideal for sightseeing and most major attractions as well as many restaurants and bars are within a pleasant stroll. we found the breakfast excellent with a large range of local breads and cakes as well as muesli and cheese. If you demand a typical western cooked breakfast you would be less happy.
Traveler's tip on recreational activities
The restaurant does not serve food in the evening but the room is left open and has a balcony. Take your own drinks and relax with nice undisturbed views over the Bosphorus.

Incredible hotel!!
The hotel is great!! Weve got the room with the big jacuzzi and view to the Marmara sea and everything was great. The hotel location is perfect, if youre on vacation in Istanbul this is the place to be. Very close to the most important places and with good nightlife (restaurants, bars, etc.). Our rate had breakfast included (buffet) which is gorgeous, they serve plenty of local food as well as the usual international stuff. The hotel also has free wifi and a pc in the lobby if you dont carry a laptop. Definitively a place to stay.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
When you check-in just make sure they give you the room type you had reserved. Initially they tried to give us a lower class room. This was just a minor mistake that was easily solved, I guess in Istanbul you must always keep your eyes open....

Sumengen Hotel - nice, small hotel
I spent 4 nights at the Sumengen Hotel with my husband and 2 children. We booked the family room and I was quite pleased with it - the room was quite spacious and the children were demarcated off by a screen. Downsides - the breakfast was not impressive at all - they would not serve us omelettes and the buffet had only boiled eggs, they could not provide hot chocolate for the chilren. We were initially impressed with the speed with which the room was tidied up but later on realised that it was not properly cleaned. We went in winter and the heating was centrally controlled so we always had to call for it to be turned on and when it was, it was not warm enough. On the positive side it is a fantastic location from which to explore the city.
