All I have to say is yuck!
All I was looking for was a place to stay for one night in Amsterdam before heading back to the US. I booked this hotel because it was cheap and the expedia review made it seem acceptable. All I did need was the basics. But this hotel did not at all live up to my expectations. The carpet in our hotel room was disgusting and covered with stains. One of the curtains in the room was ripped, there was a bare lightbulb as one of the wall fixtures, the bed was lumpy and ancient, and a baby crying in an adjacent room kept me up most of the night. The shower was more or less clean, the sheets on the bed clean and the location perfect if you want to be in the city center. But other than that, I would not at all recommend staying here ever. It has to be the worst place I have ever stayed.

more than sufficient
Obviously this is not a 5-star hotel. That being said, it was more than sufficient for someone wanting an inexpensive place with all the basics. The staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean, and it had everything you need- bed, toilet, shower and roof. The location was great-- everything in downtown Amsterdam within minutes on foot. The staircases are certainly steep, but you get used to it.

Shabby but Clean & Convenient! And Stairs . . .
The hotel has a fabulous location--walk anywhere! Its 2 blocks from the Anne Frank House, 3 blocks from Dam Square, 20 minutes from Vondel Park & the Museums, on the tram, on the canal boats. Steep and numerous stairs, but hotel personnel helped us with bags, coming & going. Spartan accommodations (No TV, no phone in room) but clean if worn and shabby. Breakfast no special deal: bread, boiled egg, cheese, jam, coffee. But go next door to Saras pancakes!!! Very good. We were the only Americans there and it doesnt seem to meet American standards judging by other reviews. My sister and I found it friendly and adequate. Be careful though--all those stairs! and steep! Cant beat the location--and its cheap.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
From this hotel you could walk to museums, Vondel Park, Central Station area, most attractions. Amsterdam is flat (though cobblestoned) and you dont need the (very good) public transportation to see the city!
