The Guest House Al Portico is an alternative place to stay in Venice... a three story house with terrace and courtyard, 10 bedrooms with private baths. An excellent location hidden slightly away from the mass tourist areas of the city. Located in the historic center of Venice, in the Cannaregio District a 7 minute walk from the train station. A few minutes from the Grand Canal, Jewish Ghetto, Casino, Rialto Fish Market, Boat stop to the lagoon islands of Murano, Burano, Torcello. Stacy, the hostess calls the house “a working mans palace”. She welcomes everyone personally and strives for a friendly, home like atmosphere. She has a “green-minded” business and openly asks guests to collaborate with her. Linens are changed on request, recycling bins are in the courtyard, water bottles go to the wine man down the street and the bookshelves and kitchen are on the honorary system. Rooms are modestly furnished with a creative touch. The house cat “Yes” patrols the halls..other small animals are excepted just as long as they understand that “Yes” is the princess of the palace! A simple self - service continental style breakfast is offered seasonally from April 1st untill October 1st in the courtyard. Guests are expected to look after themselves and make themselves at home, which includes washing up! Year round, guests are welcome to use the third floor community kitchen Our families restaurant La Colombina is right next door and offers a fantastic selection of fresh, seasonal foods prepared daily by owner and Chef Domenico Iacuzio.
