Old and getting older..

This was the third time we’ve stayed at Pelican.....and its no better than it was 10 years ago...The parking lot is a jungle----the circuitous route to your room is crazy---the pool just didn’t appear to be clean---and there’s no beach whatsoever...while the staff is pleasant I wouldn’t recommend it as other than a 1-2 star motel...

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Marine village just next door is worthwhile although very expensive !!! The Island Queen restaurant just down the road is excellent particularly for breakfast.

small, but clean

We enjoyed our stay at Pelican Cove. The rooms were kinda small but were clean. Sunday thru Thursday was very peaceful and quiet. With the weekend came more people but it wasn’t that bad. All in all, a great trip.

More Laid back Than Key West

Rooms were right on the beach. An older property but very clean! If you want some place not as crazy as Key West--stay here!

Nice Location, Bad Maintenance

The hotel is located on the Atlantic side of the Keys, and when i got there seemed to have been freshly renovated. Unfortunately never judge a book by it’s cover. The rooms had a musty smell and were infested by ants that crawl literally everywhere.

A relaxing Cove

This hotel is an older hotel and the rooms are not very big and the bathrooms are standard size. Beds were comfortable and pillows awesome. The water pressure is good and the rooms do not smell moldy. There is a quaint tiki cafe with great drinks, however the menu does not have many choices. Having said all that I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a relaxed atmosphere and would want to bring your family no matter how old or young. The view of sunrise/sunset is breathtaking!! The pool is great! You don’t have to rent chairs or beach towels, they are provided/accessible. You can drive or walk if you want action.

We would stay here again.

I spent a week with family and friends. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We had both a standard marina-view room and an ocean-front efficiency. The grounds and both rooms were spotless. There were no hints of any bugs or odors in either room. I have one recommendation. You should spend the extra cash and get an ocean-front room. We enjoyed our breakfasts on our ocean-front balcony. Every morning, we experienced a beautiful vista of water, birds and the offshore fishing boats cruising out past Alligator Light and towards the Gulf Stream.

Not quite what I was expecting

I would really have liked to answer "Maybe" to the hotel recommendation. It depends on your expectations. Perhaps mine were to high, but after reading the hotels website and somewhat high price, I expected something a little more upscale and with more amenities. There were several issues with our room, no hot water and a very sticky sliding glass door. These issues were quickly taken care of, so a sign of good management. I’m guessing a lot of their visitors are young college kids, groups of fisherman, or groups of scuba divers. The furnishing are more durable than tasteful or upscale. It looks like several rooms connect, so this would be a nice place for a family vacation, except during spring break. The hotel next door is well known for it’s parties and had live bands playing until late at night. It is probably crazy at that time, but in late May it was relatively quiet.

See you again next year

We just returned from 6 days of complete r&r. The Pelican Cove was an important part of that. It is located near lots of "lively places" which afford you the party atmosphere if that’s your thing. The beauty of Pelican Cove is it’s secluded and peaceful setting. It’s the best of both worlds. Staff was friendly and helpful and the ocean front suite was great! Will definitely stay here again next year. Everything you need to have a great vacation is found at this resort.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

The full kitchen suite saves some money if you have breakfast and lunch on your balcony overlooking the ocean. Save your $ for the many fine restaurants that offer delicious fresh seafood dinners. It also pays to buy your favorite beverages and take your drinks to the beach or pool as 2 pina coladas cost $20 w/tip.

Great views and relaxing outdoor space

Although the room itself was on the small side, there was a great balcony space with two chairs and a table and plenty of room to move them around. The windows on three sides of the room open, and create a great cross-breeze, not to mention a spectacular view over the ocean.

beautiful beach

The Pelican was just as advertised, (good location and clean, comfortable place) but one or two members of the staff were neither helpful nor hospitable. Since high season has already passed, the resort was nearly empty, which I liked. But I got the impression that the Pelican’s staff was getting kickbacks from the obviously tourist-trap restaurants they recommended.

Getaway Weekend

We came to the Keys for a long weekend and basically just needed somewhere to rest our heads. The hotel room was pretty small, carpet was filthy and the sheets were stained. I was not impressed. I would definately not expect a hotel of this quality to charge their prices.

Good place for an early winter trip

This was a great hotel, but since we went during the "off season" - early December - there were limited services. Such as the Cabana or the Cafe having limited hours of operation.

Plenty to do

Only stayed two nights but had a great time. Wish we could have stayed longer. Rooms are small but set up comfortably. Fridge/freezer is a plus. Excellent water pressure. Nice pool and dock for swimming. They rent water sports equipment & boats on site, also.

Very Disappointed

Room extremely small. Noticed on check in musty smell in room. Out early next am didn’t return til 1030p smell in room horrible. Being from New Orleans more then familiar with the smell of mold and mildew. Had to sleep with sliding glass door open. If we weren’t checking out next am would have definietly insisted on moving. Left much earlier then anticipated to escape the stench. We won’t be backl.

Traveler's tip

The outside landscaping and the balcony overlooking the ocean was beautiful. Unfortunately once you opened your room door it was a totally different story.
