Things to think about...
This hotel is cheap, clean, safe, quiet, and very comfy. But, beware of the location. Its extremely dark at night, and theres a big park (Viger) close by where a lot of homeless people congregate and theres a city mission not too far away. And its NOT steps away from shopping -- its more like a 15 min hike uphill to get to a major street, but the metro is close by. Montreal is a very safe city, but if youre traveling alone, these are some things to consider. Also, about the free breakfast. The food is free, but the service is not and they will ask for a tip. Also, the maids leave you a nice envelope thanking you for their tip, too. Now, I dont mind tipping someone on my own accord, but I dont like being asked for it.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
If youre staying for 3 days, get the Montreal 3-Day pass b/c it covers train and buses. Go explore this beautiful city!! Consider taking the 3 hr bus tour of the city by Gray Lines. Its worth it. Visit the Mont Royal area for lots of cool, funky shops & cheap eats. And hit the Atwater Farmers market, too. Consider purchasing as much as you can before you head to CA, b/c the exchange rate for the US dollar is not good. Enjoy!

Nice Place
Everything was great about this Vieux Montreal hotel. Though the encampment of homeless a couple of blocks north of the hotel made it a little spooky walking to the Metro stop early in the morning or late at night. The hotel, though, could not have been better.
