A Disappointment
This hotel was much below our expectations for the price we paid for it. Immediately upon our arrival we considered finding another hotel but due to the European Soccer Championship that Vienna was hosting our effort would have likely been futile, so we stayed. The location of the hotel might sound attractive: close to a metro station and the Schoenbrunn Palace. But it is right on a very busy street, facing a big and unattractive bus station and in a slightly seedy neighborhood (there is a porn cinema a block away). The hotel is in an old building with carpets, curtains and furniture long overdue for rejuvenation. The beds were uncomfortable and the duvets revealed spots of past accidents when occasionally peeping out of their covers. The wall paper is also worn, doors are squeaky. Our window faced away from the street so it was quiet in the room; but since there is no air-conditioning in this hotel, noises do creep in. The hotel is under new management and the service is good. Breakfast offers enough choices to get you going, there is free coffee and tea available all day long that guests can take to their rooms - which you would do if you want to avoid smoking patrons. Management is making efforts to bring this hotel into a more modern era. E.g. our bathroom was clean (although there was some mould on the shower curtains). But it will take a lot of money to make all the necessary changes this hotel is craving for.

Helpful Staff, Great Breakfast, Metro Ride to Old City
I can see where the dark red carpet, dark red walls, and dim lighting in the the Kaiserpark Schoenbrunn may make the quiet hotel seem creepy to some visitors at night. In the daylight, it feels much more welcoming. The beds were uncomfortable, and the double and single rooms that we had were small and dimly lit. The bathrooms were clean, large, and bright. The breakfast buffet was delicious and offered a wide variety of food. The hotel is close to the Shonbrunn Palace, but it is far away from the Old City sights unless you take the metro or drive. It depends upon what you prefer. For my family, we plan to book something within walking distance of the Old City when we visit Vienna again.

The staff was friendly and helpful.
Close to summer palace and transit with old-world charm, good breakfast and most importantly, all staff was friendly and gave good recommendations about restaurants and other services.
