What to expect: Though close to several bustling towns and cities, Anna Maria Island remains a bastion of old Florida beach style, with no buildings over three stories; with its low-key, village-style charms, the resort exemplifies this approach. The pastel-and-white, Caribbean-style cottages housing the condos face a palm-shaded street, with tropical landscaping enhancing the tranquil mood.
Amenity highlights: Tranquility, beautiful sunsets, and the wild birds and animals (including manatees), lend this resort an enchanted quality, enriched by the inviting village atmosphere. Leisure options are enhanced by the bayside pool, private fishing dock, picnic area with barbecue grills, and private beach access nearby. On a modern note, the resort offers complimentary long distance phone calls, cable TV, and complimentary wireless Internet access.
Insider tip: Though it's about an hour to St. Petersburg from Anna Maria Island, the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Pete is an unusual attraction and worth a trip: it houses the world's largest collection of the famed Surrealist's bizarrely compelling artworks, including 96 oil paintings, over 100 drawings, and 1300 other objects. The low-rise resort hotel consists primarily of one-story, Caribbean-style cottages housing one-bedroom units with shaded porches along a palm-lined "street." Lush tropical landscaping adds to the shady, peaceful, village-like atmosphere. A bayside swimming pool and a private fishing dock can be found on one side of the property; a private beach is accessed through another resort across the road. The resort's 34 bright, one-bedroom condo-style guest suites (the units are privately owned) all contain separate living rooms and bedrooms, fully-equipped kitchens with modern appliances, dining areas, and shaded porches facing the resort's "street", which is for use by guests only. The interiors are finished with a palette of pale creams and white, with light-colored tile floors and natural and white-painted wood furnishings with bright tropical accents. They feature ceiling fans, air conditioning, cable TVs with VCRs and DVD players, multi-line phones with complimentary long distance calls, and complimentary wireless Internet access. |
